More monochrome. If that’s not a signal that winter is practically on our doorsteps, then I’m not sure what is. With autumn wrapping up, I’m starting to reflect on my wardrobe additions over the last three months. This Lover ruffle skirt is another one of my 5PFW purchases for autumn. A frilly, delicious midi skirt that immediately caught my eye, I was drawn to the feminine silhouette and floral spot print. I’d intended for this to be an upgrade on a Topshop hanky hem skirt I bought around two years ago. Somehow – as is inevitable with me and polka dots – I decided they’re different enough to hang onto them both.

It’s hard to believe that more than 15 years have passed since I bought my first Lover piece. There’s nothing like a bit of Lover lace to feel just a little bit fancy, and some of my fondest memories are tied to items I’ve bought from the label over the years. The most special yet is the Jasmine dress, which I wore when Luke and I got married two and a half years ago.
The feminine French-girl aesthetic is a shift from the Scandi-style silhouettes I’ve been wearing a lot lately. My favourite way to wear it for autumn is with a slim fitting sweater, and some cute shoes; anything with a pointed toe goes. For winter, I see myself layering it up with heavier knit sweaters, tights and boots. Then for spring and summer? Little t-shirts and silk camisoles, with and oversized blazer to act as a cover up. Clearly, versatility is the key element that tipped me over the edge with this skirt.
