The last week I’ve spent dispproportionately large chunks of time browsing on ASOS, Topshop, Missguided, Everlane and J. Crew, for pretty much nothing in particular. Given how feverishly I’ve been adding to my ‘wishlist’, the thing I found most surprising wasn’t the volume (or a few of the more questionable stores) but the actual items I was gravitating towards.
Cornflower blue pinstriped trousers, denim overall dresses fit for a girl at least half my age, body-hugging two pieces which show just a sliver of midriff, and metallic pleated midi skirts.
For a long time, I felt like my ‘style journey’ had finally come to an end; or at least I thought I’d found myself a sweet spot, of sorts. But after flicking through my photos from Fashion Week, I’ve begun to think that maybe I still have a wee ways to go; and I’m all for a little experimentation which sits at the more affordable end of the scale.
But, for another month at least, I’ll be sticking to my capsule wardrobe of 33 items, monochromatic and all. Simple the same, always.

No matter how comfortable I get with my style, I find there’s always something that’s changing and evolving – and it’s part of the fun. Speaking of fun, that skirt is to die for; I love the architectural cut.

I think I’m starting to be in that same frame of mind – probably also because I haven’t bought any new clothing (aside from the items for the 5PFW Challenge) in such a long time! xx
This outfit is absolutely beautiful. Makes me want to crave the skirt. Although i dont wear skirts. Thank you for posting 3 and not 20 outfit pictures of the same thing. I detest scrolling through such feeds.

Love the skirt, although the link is not working!! I know you are a big fan of Everlane and their ethical fashion philosophy but do you know much about the other brands you wear? I read your blog regularly and think that you are in a great position to bring some of these issues to light. Did you know Glassons have one of the worst records of workers rights? There are heaps of great Aussie and NZ brands out there who do get their clothes manufactured off shore and use only factories that respect their workers right and pay a living wage. Have a look at this from NZ Herald on the weekend.. 🙂

Hi Libby – sorry the link is not working! Might be that it has since sold out; they did have it on Shopbop too if I recall correctly although it was with a yellow strip rather than a white one.
I think that there’s still a lot of mystery surrounding many brands, as even some luxury brands have been exposed as using factories where workers are treated incredibly poorly, so it’s really tough to tell either way. I generally feel that if the price seems too good to be true, then there’s someone else who is paying for it.
I’ve watched quite a lot of documentaries and read a number of books on the subject, so obviously I do feel very passionate about it, although I also acknowledge that for some people, they don’t have the means to spend several hundred, let alone several thousand on one item. The thing that really gets me is more the throwaway tendencies of fashion these days, which is where I think the crux of the issue lies. Doing a few wardrobe challenges has taught me a lot about my spending habits although I hate to say I’m still inclined to browse ASOS every now and then (although I rarely give in to the impulse to buy).
I haven’t bought from Glassons in probably two years now – I got this tank a long time ago (it’s 100% cotton and I’ve got three for some reason – I think one was mum’s) as I couldn’t find anything else which fit the bill from any brand, cheap or expensive. I’m torn as obviously it’s a NZ business and having grown up in NZ, I want to be able to support Kiwi businesses. Thank you for sharing that article – I’ve stopped reading much of the Life & Style sections (and I read News and SMH now that I’m in Sydney) but I’m really intrigued to read more of the report so look forward to doing so when I have a bit more time over the weekend. I think part of the magic of blogging is that it really gives you an opportunity to connect with like minded individuals.
If you haven’t watched it, Sweatshop (I think it’s called) is EXCELLENT. It made me cry because it’s tremendously upsetting – its about a few norwegian fashion bloggers which travel to Vietnam. I won’t give too much away but it is definitely worth the watch.
Haha and yes – am a huge fan of Everlane. I like how they support the factories too, their Black Friday appeal last year really hooked me even more (they gave all profits to the factory workers for that one day) – I know I talk about them a lot but can’t help it as the quality is impressive for such a reasonable price point, and I like that they – at least from what I can tell – are being very transparent about their processes.

Thanks Megan! Yeah, it’s so bizarre as I’ve been into such simple shapes and outfits for such a long time and I think it’s really just having time and seeing what is out there. J Crew is the hugest enabler for me though.. I really need to stay off that site…
