It takes a lot to get me excited about an eyeshadow palette. I have a type; give me a taupe or a bronze-based eyeshadow, and I’m generally pretty happy. Even better if it’s a one wash wonder. But, when I laid eyes on the NARS NARSissist Wanted Eyeshadow Palette, I couldn’t really say no.
I’ve previously steered clear of eyeshadows that pull too warm, instead opting for something that sits on the more neutral end of the spectrum, but I couldn’t resist giving this rosey-toned palette a go.
The Shade Selection
Unlike previous NARS eyeshadow palettes, the outer packaging doesn’t feature that iconic mirrored exterior, something I was extremely relieved about – my other NARS palette was a nightmare to keep free of smudges and fingerprints. Inside the compact is a large mirror, and 12 warm-toned shades, including mattes, shimmers and high-intensity glitters. Let’s take a closer look at the shade selection from left to right…
Biarritz – matte pink-toned pale cream
Seven Heaven – matte terra cotta
Shooting Star – glittery pink champagne
Satisfaction – pale pink champagne shimmer
Shadow Hill – matte warm-toned medium brown
La La – chocolate brown shimmer
Delirium – metallic rose gold glitter
Mendoza – copper glitter with pink undertones
Fallen Star – antiqued bronze glitter
Temptress – cinnamon red
Wicked Game – cranberry shimmer
Coconut Grove – matte dark brown
How the NARS NARSissist Wanted Palette performs
Aside from the incredibly wearable mattes, the beautiful shimmers and the dazzling glitters, there’s a bit of an element of nostalgia to this palette for me, which harks back to my first ever eyeshadow purchase from MAC – a bright pink shimmer. That being said, there’s a lot to like about this palette. It’s a sensational all rounder – the kind of palette that is perfect to take abroad for vacation, as the shadow selection works for both a day look, or something a little more glitzy and glam for the evening. Plus, I like the fact that you could essentially forgo a liquid liner, and use the dark matte brown (Coconut Grove) to deepen up the lash line.
The shadows all very pigmented, and bar ‘Coconut Grove’, have incredible colour payoff. I typically tend to find that a good dark brown or black eyeshadow is difficult to get right, and I find the payoff to be a little sheer and chalky, compared to the other shades in the palette. That being said, it works well with a little MAC Fix + (also here), and the colour payoff is enough that it’ll deepen up your lash line in a flash.
I haven’t noticed any fall out when blending the shadows in, however it is worth noting that the mattes can kick up a little bit of product in the pan. On the eyelid, the formula is smooth and creamy, and an absolute dream to blend out.
How I like to wear it
For day-to-day, I’ve been applying a wash of Biarritz across my lids, used Seven Hearn and Shadow Hill to add some depth to the socket, and swept a mix of Satisfaction and Delirium across the inner corner and first third of my eye; the combination makes for a really simple yet wearable look for work.
For an evening look, I adore Fallen Star; the shade is multi-dimensional and has this gorgeous khaki sheen to it. I’ll swipe that across my eyelid, and deepen up the outer corner of my eye with a mix of La La and Coconut Grove. And then to brighten up my inner corner, I’ll apply a touch of Shooting Star.
Overall, the NARS NARSissist Wanted Eyeshadow Palette has been a total winner for me, and the only palette that I’ve been seriously reaching for on a daily basis. This was a limited edition palette, so if you haven’t been lucky enough to snap one up, this palette from NARS is also beautiful, and I think this palette is a great alternative. Have you given the NARS NARSissist Wanted Palette a go?
