We’re T-1 days until Black Friday now, and today, rather than focus on what new sales have launched, I thought I’d talk about some of my wardrobe favourites that are currently discounted. For me, investing in good quality basics, that are truly timeless is so much more rewarding than splurging on a passing fancy. A number of these pieces are ones I bought last year (or even further back than that), so I’ve had a good opportunity to really put them through their paces.
CLOTHING STAPLES
Naadam Cashmere Crew-Neck Sweater | I thought I’d start with a wardrobe classic: the cashmere sweater. I own two cashmere knits from Naadam; their classic crew, and the luxe oversized cashmere sweater. They’re currently offering 30% off most items with the code “BF30”, which makes it a good time to buy, especially if you’re looking at their luxe knits. I’ve done a full review on the classic crew HERE if you’re curious on sizing. I am still yet to notice any pilling with that one, and can’t get over how soft it is. The luxe oversized sweater is super thick and plush, though I have noticed from four wears that it’s already started to pill down the right side where I wear my handbag. It’s nothing a cashmere comb won’t fix but I thought it was worth mentioning given the price tag.
Assembly Label Linen Trousers | Linen trousers are a bit of a must for the transitional season, and I really can’t recommend this pair from Assembly Label enough. I bought these early on in the pregnancy (I got the AU8 as the tie waist means I can cinch these easily too) and was wearing them right up until the 20 week mark, when it got a little too warm. The quality is divine. They’ve got that classic raw linen texture, but don’t feel scratchy or uncomfortable against your skin.
ASOS Black Cotton Midi Dress | Dresses have formed a huge part of my maternity style, particularly anything that is loose, floaty, and has a bit of give at the bust. I absolutely adore this style; it has puff sleeves (a trend of the moment), smocking at the bust, and a loose, floaty skirt. The quality of the cotton is absolutely beautiful, and I still can’t quite believe that this one made it into the sale. I got this in the UK8 and it’s the perfect fit.
Lune Resort Noni Midi Dress | I featured this dress in a recent blog post; it’s another one of those go-to styles which has been perfect for pregnancy, but also great if you love a relaxed silhouette. This is 100% cotton, and feels so light and airy to wear. I like that it has a tiered ruffle design, and the high collar – it feels modest but modern at the same time.
All Saints Balfern Leather Jacket | One of my big splurges last year during the Black Friday sales was the balfern leather jacket from All Saints. It’s investment-worthy, and a total splurge, but 100% worth it in my books. Just like last year, it’s 30% off, which I think is a great price for a high quality piece like this. The leather is buttery soft, and the details are timeless. I opted for my usual size, and went with the UK8. It’s perfect as a transitional piece (which was my intent), though if you want to be able to layer thick knits underneath, I’d recommend going up a size. I did find it fit quite snug at first, but the leather relaxes quite quickly and gives around half a size.
Kindersalmon Twist Volume Blouse | My favourite way to play with basics is to look for an unusual detail, and this cotton shirt has them in spades. From the origami pleated crossover detail at the front, to the voluminous sleeves, it truly is something special. This is such a great way to jazz up a simple pair of black trousers, and it’s safe to say it’ll be on serious rotation for me next autumn after baby arrives. The code “BLACK19” will net you an extra 15% off your order (including sale items).
Madewell Courier Shirt | Another classic piece in my wardrobe that I’ve been reaching for, for years now is the courier shirt from Madewell. They’ve currently got a store-wide discount of 30% with the code “GIFTWELL”, and this is one piece I think is worth a second look at. It’s a great staple piece, and the quality is excellent – the cotton has a soft, gauzy, washed feel to it. Mine has been through the wash countless times! As the silhouette is quite oversized, I’d recommend going down a size. I wear mine in the XS. Shopbop also has it in stock, and you can get up to 25% off your order there.
Lilysilk Oversized Silk Blouse | A silk blouse is a great wardrobe staple, and I spotted that Lilysilk have 40% off selected styles. One of my favourites that they stock is the oversized silk blouse. I’ve got this in the black, and it’s a lovely weight, and the relaxed nature of the silhouette means it’s suitable for both work and play. I opted to size up to a medium for a super oversized fit, though I think you can stick true to size with this style.
BAGS
Parisa Wang Enchanted Bag | You may have spotted this gorgeous cross body bag in some of my recent YT videos (like this one). I’m a big fan of mock croc leather, and the delicious rich brown hue has been a wonderful complement to so many of my outfits. It’s currently on sale in the red, and I have a code for 10% off the whole site with “JAMIELEE10”.
Linjer Crossbody Purse | One of my favourite bags to wear when I want something that’s classic but looks smart, is my Crossbody Purse from Linjer. The quality of it is divine, the gold hardware is always a perfect match to my jewellery, plus I like that despite its small size, it fits all my essentials, and then some. It’s also got metal feet at the base of the bag which protects the leather if you pop it on a hard surface. It’s currently 30% off, too!
SHOES
Saint Laurent Nu Pieds Slides | Every sale season, I fall prey to the allure of a good pair of shoes. For Black Friday, I decided to finally pull the trigger on a pair of Nu Pieds from Saint Laurent. I managed to snap them up for 50% off, and went for a creamy bone patent leather. The colour choice was a bit off-script (I was eying up the dark brown or black mock croc leather), but it feels timeless and fresh at the same time. I sized up to the EU41 for two reasons; one, I have wide feet and these had extra room across the foot, and two, I wanted to hedge my bets in case my feet permanently went up a size due to the pregnancy. I’ve spotted them on sale at a few retailers, including Matches Fashion, Ssense, and Net-a-Porter.
By Far Tanya Mules | Another recent-ish addition to my wardrobe for spring/summer are the tanya mules from By Far. I had these on my wishlist for a good six months + before finally deciding to splurge; waiting until I could get 15% off, of course. While I don’t think I’ve seen the nude patent version on sale, I’ve noticed that the leather versions in a variety of colours are discounted around 40% off. Personally, I’d recommend the leather over the patent. Leather is softer and will wear in quicker than patent (mine give me small blisters if I wear them 5+ hours). The silhouette is gorgeous, the block heel makes them easy to walk in, and they’re pretty comfortable too. I found these fit true to size and I bought them EU40.
Charlotte Olympia Kitty Flats | Perhaps one of the oldest pairs of shoes in my closet are the kitty flats from Charlotte Olympia. While they aren’t considered ”trendy” now, I still absolutely love mine. Charlotte Olympia flats are so comfortable, and I love the attention to detail in each pair, plus the gold heel is such a signature statement-maker. I’ve spotted these on sale at a couple of retailers including Ssense and Matches Fashion. Size-wise, they fit true to size, and again, I wear them in an EU40.
Stuart Weitzman OTK boots | These are a perennial style staple, and for good reason, though at full retail, they will set you back a pretty penny. If you’ve been thinking of investing in a pair, now is the time. Nordstrom currently has all OTK styles 40% off, which is great value if you’re looking for a classic style you can wear for years, and that won’t slip down. I bought the pointed toe pair last Christmas and love mine! They’re also on sale at Shopbop, and The Outnet too.
Veja Esplar Sneakers | The final pair of shoes I wanted to mention that I’ve spotted in the sales are the esplar sneakers from Veja. Again, I’ve done a review on them HERE if you’d like to have a read. These sneakers have quite a slim profile, which I find really flattering as they don’t make your feet look big at all. The tongue can be quite stiff on them fresh out of the box, and I found it took six wears for this to soften up. You can tuck the tongues to the side which will make the breaking in process much smoother!
JEWELLERY/ACCESSORIES
Missoma Interstellar and Mini Molten Necklaces | If you watched my recent YT video, then you may have seen that I was so thrilled with my Missoma purchases from last year, that I decided to splurge on a couple more. While I do think they’re on the premium end for gold plated jewellery, it’s well worth it. Mine haven’t tarnished at all, and they’ve been such a joy to wear over the last 12 months. There’s currently 25% off site wide at Missoma with the code “VIP25”
Mejuri Jewellery | I thought I’d wrap things up with my other favourite – affordable – jewellery brand; Mejuri. They do one sale a year during Black Friday weekend, where there’s a scaled discount. You can get 10% off one item, 15% off two items, or 20% off three or more items. Some of my favourites include the Pearl Drop Earrings, the Rolo Bracelet, and the Zodiac Necklace. I’ve also been wearing my Diamond Necklace a lot recently, which is such a pretty, dainty piece.
Hi Jaime, thank you for this great post. Please could you tell me where the black crossbody bag with gold hardware is from that you’re wearing in the assembly label linen trousers snap? Thank you
