At the start of the year while I was mapping out my style manifesto for 2020, I recognised a gap for a new bag in my closet. I’ve talked previously about how I’ve scaled back my handbag essentials, and I wanted to be able to narrow that down even further. Basically, I wanted a shoulder-style mini bag that would give me easy access to items like my phone, keys, wallet and lip balm. And the Linjer Lana Bag instantly struck me as the perfect option.

Wearing Witchery wrap front top (old but similar here and also here); Everlane skinny jeans; M&S trench coat (old but similar); Vaneli pumps (also here); Linjer Lana Bag; Missoma marina necklace; Boden bracelet; Madewell earrings

I consider myself fortunate to have a number of bags from Linjer, and they don’t disappoint. The quality is exceptional, and everything you’d expect from a luxury bag… without the luxury price tag. Co-founders Roman and Jenn were kind enough to send me the bag for review, and after using it solidly for the last six weeks, I figured it was time to share a rundown of my thoughts, the general wear and tear, and what I’m able to fit inside.

What drew me in most was the design. The appearance is petite, semi structured, with a thin detachable cross body strap. The Linjer Lana Bag also has a top handle, which “belts” through the leather, and secures with a magnetic snap button closure.

The interior is lined with a plush microsuede lining, which feels luxurious and on par with designer bags from the likes of Saint Laurent or Celine. There’s also a small slip pocket – great for keeping keys or a lip balm within close reach.

It’s crafted from a milled leather, which has a pebbled or grained textural appearance. In general, textured leathers are more hard-wearing and less susceptible to scratches and marks; this makes the Linjer Lana Bag a great option if you’re after a mini bag that isn’t too high maintenance.

There’s four colours available; black, taupe, blue, and maroon. I tend to wear a lot of neutrals, so black bags tend to be a go-to as they make an effortless styling option. If you want a bit more contrast, or just like some colour in your life, the taupe, blue or maroon are gorgeous more cool-toned shades (and perfect for the upcoming autumn!).

Wear + Tear

The Linjer Lana Bag has been my daily go-to over the past six or so weeks – even if it’s just to pack in my keys and phone during my daily dose of exercise.

The grained calfskin leather has started to slowly soften up, relaxing the boxy structure slightly. It back of the bag hugs up against my hip when worn cross body, but it hasn’t affected the overall integrity of the shape. As the bag doesn’t have feet, I’m careful to place it on a clean or soft surface when putting it down; one of the few ways that I baby my bags.

I’ve sprayed the exterior of the bag with Collonil Leather Spray to protect it from rain, on the off chance I get caught in a downpour now that autumn has hit us here in Sydney. As for any scratches, I’m yet to get a single one.

Inside, the microsuede lining has remained unmarked. I’ve been careful not to leave any leaky pens or lip oil type products in there, to ensure that it stays looking pristine. The magnetic closure is just as strong, easily snapping shut when both sides are loosely aligned.

What Fits Inside?

For me, this falls into the Goldilocks zone; not too small, not too big, but just right. And it’s worth noting that looks can be deceiving. The interior is surprisingly roomy – particularly if your handbag essentials are already edited down. Inside, I can fit the following:

  • A small cardholder wallet
  • A key case + separate car key fob
  • iPhone 8 Plus
  • Wireless headphones
  • Sunglasses
  • Small fragrance
  • Two lipsticks

Final Thoughts

I was pleasantly surprised by how easily the Linjer Lana Bag has slotted into my daily routine. My lifestyle has changed considerably in the past month since becoming a mum. I have a larger tote bag that I’m using as a “nappy” bag, and I wanted something compact that I could sling across my body to keep those essentials within reach.

Versatility is always key for me, and a bag like this – especially in black – is one I see easily working for many different occasions. Crossbody or on the shoulder for during the day, or with the strap removed and held top handle for a relaxed evening event. The pale gold hardware is another nice touch, and adds to the versatility. It’s warm enough to work with gold jewellery, but the desaturated finish means it’ll also pair nicely with silver or rose gold jewellery; perfect if you like to mix metals.

Being a smaller bag, it’s also very lightweight, even when it’s been filled completely. The thin strap disperses the weight of the contents well, and doesn’t dig or cut into my shoulders at all. I also like that the handles are just large enough to fit my wrist through; great if I want a fourth way to wear the bag.

I’ve mentioned this before, but I’ve come to have high expectations of Linjer’s leather goods. It’s visible from the stitching, finishes and design details that it’s a cut above other bags at this price point. It feels luxurious, and has really helped to elevate a lot of my outfits of late. Often this has included sweatpants or sneakers (comfort has been king during that #newmum life!).

The design feels unique, but classic at the same time. It’s not ostentatious, but rather acts as a beautiful complement to your outfit. And from a wear and tear perspective, it’s held up impeccably. Over time the leather will soften up more and have a slightly lived in look. In my opinion, this always adds to the charm of a grained leather bag.

Overall, it’s a total winner for me, and one I suspect you’re going to see me toting a lot in the coming months. If you’ve been on the hunt for a micro bag for just the essentials, then the Lana Bag from Linjer is definitely worth a look.

Thank you so much to Linjer for partnering with me on this post.

Thank you Marcella! Definitely much more tired these days than I used to be, but having something to keep my mind occupied in-between caring for bubs has been a welcome reprieve. Hope you’re staying safe xx
