At some point over the past fortnight, I found myself trawling through saved archives on old hard drives, filled with websites I’d built from scratch, and outfits I’d shared on my very first fashion blog.

Wearing Toteme top; Arket denim shorts; YSL slides (affordable option); Acne mini musubi bag (review here); Linjer earrings

One of the things that struck me was how I used many of the same principles 15 years ago, that I do now. But with a slightly more feminine flair.

Unsurprising that my favourite way of dressing – with monochromatic tendencies – has been a running thread. Though I was suitably more adventurous; shades of magenta, purple and pink paired together. A lot of lighter blues worn mixed in with navy (which at that time, was the “new” black in my closet). The principles I applied were the same though. Texture, shape, and subtle pattern to add in variation and visual interest.

Funny how some things just stick with you.

Anyway, all this is to say that this is an outfit I wore a wee while back and never properly shared. But I really, really, like it. Ticks all the boxes for me. It’s not too “loud”; the overall sentiment is quite classic but with small details that feel intuitively me. The artful origami shape of the musubi bag. The ruching at the collar and ballooned sleeves of my blouse. Shoes which feel ever so slightly vintage inspired, yet seem balanced out with elements of modernity. If only it weren’t 32 deg C in Sydney today, as this is probably what I’d be wearing.
