I’m not shy about my love for the marinere; or striped knit sweater. This particular “closet staple” because a wardrobe must-have during my early days of exploring my personal style; heavily influenced by listicles of what one would find in a “typical” Parisian wardrobe. And it’s endured, no matter what direction my style has shifted in. Modernised in some ways, but no matter the style or silhouette, even the most basic striped sweater feels current.
Wearing H&M striped sweater (love this one too!); Everlane skinny jeans; Vaneli two tone pumps; Acne Studio mini musubi bag
One of my personal favourites, is the cheap and cheerful purchase I’m wearing above. A lucky H&M find, which I’d recently spotted back in stock (though it seems you need to be quick on that one!). Breton striped tops more commonly tend to have a white or cream base, but what consistently draws me to this particular knit is the reverse. The black based stripe, which gives a greater element of contrast; amplified by the thickness of the stripe itself. It also leans into that relaxed silhouette I’m craving from my closet (a current trend in of itself).
Inspired by my love of this particular piece in my wardrobe, I wanted to share some styles which are on the more affordable end of the spectrum – $200 and under. Linking all my favourites below – lots of lovely cotton and merino options!
