I did a little call out on Instagram to see which item I should share how to style next, and the Sezane Loulou trousers came out on top. And I get the hype; if you’re after a wide leg trouser that will easily take you from work to weekend, these are it. They’re flattering too, which I assume is down to the high rise and side zip closure, removing any bulk from the front of the pant while adding the illusion of height.
I’m wearing the Sezane Loulou trousers here in my usual size; AU8/US4/FR36. To me, they fit true to size, with a little bit of give at the waist. Perfect for tucking a bulky sweater in, and there are belt loops at the ready if you need to cinch them in at all. So I have six outfits to share; details and styling notes below. You can view each look in motion HERE.
On left: wearing Arket striped top (size S); Sezane Loulou trousers (size US4); Birkenstock sandals (size EU40)
Opting for a classic Parisian combo, pairing the loulou trousers with a long sleeved striped tee. The trousers have a kind of formality to them, which I wanted to play down with a more relaxed piece, something that’s also reflected in my choice of shoes – a chunky sandal!
On right: wearing Sezane Chloe blouse (size US4); Sezane Loulou trousers (size US4); VIVAIA slingbacks (size EU40)
By contrast, this second outfit was more workwear inspired, from the silky blouse, down to the pointed toe pumps. The bookending effect here is pretty subtle, but I’ve matched the shoes with my blouse. Black shoes would look good too here. I made sure to leave the top few buttons of my blouse undone. This does a few things, it highlights the femininity of the shirt with the scalloped broderie edge detail. But also, adds balance by exposing some skin and stopping the outfit from feeling too “buttoned up”.
On left: wearing Everlane one shoulder tank (size S); Sezane Loulou trousers (size US4); YSL slides (size EU41)
Illustrating here one of the ways you could wear these trousers if you were to take them on vacation. I kept the outfit monochromatic (though colour would be fun!), with a black one shoulder tank, and some slip on slides. The shoes and the top both have a slim and refined fit, which adds to the elegance of the pairing while still feeling balanced because of the wider fit of the pants. I’d probably wear this for an evening meal out, with my hair pulled back in a low bun.
On right: wearing Farm Rio tee (size M); Sezane Loulou trousers (size US4); Jenni Kayne sweater (size S); Golden Goose sneakers (size EU40)
If you can’t tell yet, I love when there is an element of dichotomy in my outfits. This fourth look is case in point. Pairing the tailored trousers with an oversized tee, and distressed sneakers. Both so far removed from how you’d expect these trousers to be worn, which is one of the reasons why I think it works. I’ve also thrown a chunky knit on over the shoulders as it emphasises ease, while also being practical if it gets cold.
On left: wearing H&M tank (size S); Moia shirt (O/S); Sezane Loulou trousers (size US4); YSL slides (size EU41)
Another take on holiday dressing, but this time for day. Here you can see I’ve broken up the colour palette and gone for a simple high contrast look. White on top, black on bottom. I’ve got those same slide sandals on, and up top I’ve done some simple layering with a white ribbed tank (hello, texture!), and an oversized shirt worn open. If it gets too hot, slip the shirt off your shoulders, or remove it entirely.
On right: wearing ONTE cardigan (size S); Sezane Loulou trousers (size US4); Vaneli two tone pumps (size US9)
Final outfit, and here I’ve worn a colour combo I am really into at the moment; lemon yellow with black. This outfit is less about the pants, and more so about the knit, which is beautifully textured. I kept the bottom two buttons loose, something I like to do with oversized knits as it creates some fun shapes when you pop your hands in your pockets.
Do you have a favourite outfit?
Quick question- I love these pants and have been tempted to buy for so long but I’m put off by “dry clean only” – I have young children so it’s easier if I can wash my pants In the machine at home on a gentle cycle. Have you tried washing these?
