Kicking off a new (semi) regular series on my blog, I thought it might be fun to share some dressing room diaries. First impressions of items from brands I love, or in some cases, might be outside of my usual style wheelhouse. And I though we could start with a try on of my favourite pieces from the Viktoria & Woods Spring 22 collection.
Viktoria & Woods has been on my radar for several years at this point. Given the brand’s minimal aesthetic, it’s wild that it’s taken me until now to make my way into one of their stores. So, let’s get into the good stuff; the try-on and review. PS. You can see all these items in motion HERE.
Viktoria & Woods Thunderbird Short (wearing size 1/AU8)
Denim shorts are a major staple in my spring and summer wardrobe. So much so, that I’ve got my basics down, and have felt a pull to branch out from the classic blue, white and black pairs I already own. I was clearly drawn to the neutral beige hue here, which is such a natural fit in my closet. The denim quality felt lovely. Sturdy and robust, but with a real lived in softness. Design-wise they’re great too; the a-line silhouette with wide leg opening is universally flattering. A win and these had to come home with me. Fit was true to size.
Viktoria & Woods Strobe Top (wearing size 1/AU8)
Cut-outs aren’t usually something I go for, but this top was so darling that I couldn’t resist. It’s even better in person. The fabric is a super thick ribbed knit that hugs your curves, and I thought the twisted peek-a-book effect had a subtle sexiness to it. Not overt, and for someone who doesn’t feel comfortable flashing too much midriff, a way I could “buy” into the trend. Clearly not bra-friendly though! Also comes in pale pink and black. Fit was true to size.
Viktoria & Woods Torquay Tank (wearing size 1/AU8)
The Torquay Tank looked like a bit of a Viktoria & Woods signature, so I figured I had to give it a go. The cotton was ribbed, and had a nice soft hand feel. Personally I wanted the neckline to sit a little higher, so the straps felt on the longer side. This has a bit of give and a close fit (but not snug – there’s some room there). Fit was true to size.
Viktoria & Woods Unisex Granger Short (wearing size 1/AU8)
It wasn’t until I hopped on the website later that I realised this was a unisex style! Which explains the fit as I found they felt a little roomy – I could have gone down to a 0. These shorts have an elasticated band at the back and have this perfectly chic tailored look. A great option if you’re after a smart pair of black shorts that are easily dressed up and down. There’s a small metal detail on one of the front belt loops that I especially loved. Fits ever-so-slightly large. If between sizes go with the smaller of the two.
Viktoria & Woods Unisex Capulet Wool Blazer (wearing size 1/AU8)
You all know how much I love an oversized blazer, but this wasn’t the one for me. I’m not sure if it just so happened to be the one I tried on, but the sleeves puffed up at the shoulder ever so slightly – a detail I really wasn’t looking for in a blazer like this. The fabrication was beautiful though, very smooth and fully lined. Shoulders aside, I really appreciated how it hung on the body. Fit true to size for an oversized fit.
Viktoria & Woods Lioness Top (wearing size 1/AU8)
It’s not that apparent from the photo (and video) I took trying on this tank, but there’s a hook and eye closure right down the centre. Great for amping this up for a day to night look. For night, pop a few of the hooks to create an open v-neck. Another absolutely beautiful piece. The fabric was thick and had a sculpted feel; even without a bra on I got the sense that I’d feel well supported wearing this. Very tempting to also take this home with me, but I got a little bit of sticker shock. One I’m mulling over. If it came in black, white or grey, it’d be an absolute no-brainer for me.
Viktoria & Woods Whirlpool Dress (wearing size 1/AU8)
Finally, let’s take a little moment for the Viktoria & Woods whirlpool dress. Colour might not have a huge place in my wardrobe, but I’m always drawn to yellows. It truly is the happiest colour. And I could imagine this as being the perfect wedding guest dress. Details I liked are the way the dress is cut on the shoulder, with a shoulder and off shoulder strap; the gathering at the bust; and also, the side slit. In the changing room it did feel like the size 1 was a little too big for me at the waist, despite being rather snug at the bust. If I were to add this to my closet I’d be considering tailoring options, or whether the next size down would fit a little better. So, keep in mind it’s quite roomy in the waist and across the hip – perfect if you’re an apple or pear shape though as it accommodates your curves!
So that was everything I tried on at Viktoria & Woods. What were your favourites?
