If there is ever a bag that (silently) screams quiet luxury, this is it. The Lemaire Croissant Bag. A semi-matte finish, relaxed crossbody style, with its playful design, inspired by the iconic French pastry. For me, it was one of those thought out, well considered splurges, and I was lucky to manage to get it 10% off during an SSENSE flash sale. Aside from the functionality, I was drawn to the minimalist design and lack of logo. After more than 12 months of wear, I figured it was time to do a Lemaire Croissant Bag Review – something I hope will be helpful for those of you considering purchasing this bag.

What Fits Inside
The Lemaire Croissant Bag is what I would consider a small everyday bag. It fits the essentials, and little else. Unlike some of my other go-to styles, this has a single compartment. Cotton twill lined interior, and a smooth zip pull with a wide opening for access. The bag is curved, which does have an impact on how much you can carry (and how you need to “pack” it).
The following items will comfortably fit inside…
- iPhone 14 Pro Max
- Cardholder
- Key holder + additional car key fob
- A couple of lipsticks
- Small packet of tissues
- Travel sized hand sanitiser
Lemaire Croissant Bag Review
Arguably one of the bags that draws the most attention when I wear it. I think in part down to the lack of exterior branding, and sleek design. The Lemaire Croissant Bag is functional in the sense that it allows you to move around hands-free easily. The crossbody strap is soft and wide, which evenly distributes the weight of the items you’re carrying with you. Though in saying that, it doesn’t fit a whole lot. I suspect this would have a lot more impact in one of the larger sizes.
One thing that’s surprised me in the time that I’ve had mine (over 12 months now), is how sturdy the leather is. To the touch, it’s incredibly soft and supple. Naturally, I assumed it might be more delicate, though it’s proven to be anything but. I can’t see any visible blemishes or major signs of wear and tear. The leather has softened up even more, which says a lot as it was buttery soft the moment I pulled it out of the dust bag.
Part of the appeal to me with this bag – aside from the handsfree design – was its appearance. Reminiscent of a croissant and reflective of Christophe Lemaire’s whimsical approach to design. What’s not to love? And the stitching has held up; no fuzzy edges (yet), snags or pulls. So on the quality front, it’s a big win. I also love the puffy padded pull tab.
My biggest bugbear has to do with the functionality. I can’t help but wish that there was a small interior pocket that I could zip things like receipts or a lip balm into. And also, how wide the bag opening is. It makes sense, given the design. But I’m always worried that something will just fall out (and spoiler alert, it has).
It’s also worth noting that the strap length is fixed. I have a longer torso so this isn’t an issue for me. But if you’re more petite, you may find that it hangs lower down on the hip on you. Something to consider.
Ultimately, if you love the design of this bag, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed with the quality. Exceptional. And for me, despite my small grievance with the aforementioned design element, I adore using it. It reads casual, but feels luxurious. It keeps my belongings close, but I’m still handsfree and able to pick up my kids if I need to. Also love the lack of visible logo!
The only thing that might stop you from splurging? The price point. I have seen similar options on Etsy HERE, alternatively I would recommend this one from COS. The COS version is a little more reminiscent of the Banana bag from The Row, but it’s in the same vein/style. Alternatively, at an even lower price point, is this bag from UNIQLO. It’s a poly/nylon so not a leather finish, but comes in lots of fun colours if you want something cute for travel.
