A casual date night outfit

I’ve definitely become a denim girl. No matter the occasion, I seem to be able to find a way to incorporate a pair of jeans into my look. And for a girl who usually lives by the mantra that ‘its better to be overdressed’ it feels a refreshing, if not a little freeing. Mostly, I’ve found that they’ve been a great option for a casual date night where Luke and I are going for a relaxed dinner and a movie.

Paired with a silk camisole, a tailored jacket and some heeled sandals, the jeans feel elevated, and it’s an instant date night look.

01 | ASOS farleigh mom jeans

When I first bought these jeans a couple years back, I had no idea they’d become such a favourite. Despite being tagged a ‘mom’ jean, they’re anything but. For this particular iteration, they’re a skinny jean through and through; probably why I’ve found myself reaching for them so frequently. What really makes these special is the pull tabs on the waist. While it means you can’t pair these jeans with a belt, you can adjust the tabs to cinch in which I find is not only practical, but flattering too. I also really love the frayed stepped hem. This has stayed looking pretty consistent since purchasing the jeans, and I haven’t noticed any tatty threads after washing, either.

Sizing wise, I went for these in a 25/32 and they fit true to size, if not a little cropped for the inseam measurement. The quality of the denim is great. It’s got a little bit of give to it, but these don’t stretch or bag out.

02 | Everlane wool blazer

I knew the minute this blazer arrived that it was going to be a total style winner for me. I’d umm-ed and ahh-ed over adding this one to cart when it was first released (and very quickly sold out), that I didn’t miss a beat when I saw it was being re-stocked.

This is a lightweight wool style, which makes it perfect for the transitional season. The herringbone pattern on the wool is a subtle detail that’s really only visible up close, and adds an element of complexity to the fabric. From a styling perspective, I love this most worn with the sleeves scrunched up. I have narrow shoulders, and I find that this helps to balance out the more masculine silhouette on my frame.

It’s an oversized fit, so I’d recommend sizing down. I’m usually a US4 or AU8 in tailoring, but I got this in a US2 (my usual Everlane size). It’s still a big fit on me, but there’s enough room to layer a bulky sweater, without it feeling to snug under the arms.

03 | Charles & Keith grey strappy sandals

What really takes this outfit from day to night are the shoes. The 90s have been having a massive revival in the style stakes, and I really liked how these shoes have a nod to the era (not that it was that long ago!). The squared off toe, squared heel, and fuss-free strappy design are a bit of a throwback, but I think work effortlessly paired with the buckle across the foot.

These are a vegan leather shoe, and comfort-wise, they’ve really surprised me. I can walk in these for miles without getting a single blister, and they don’t slip off my feet. It helps that the slim block design of the heel provides quite a bit of support, and they’ve got just the right amount of height. I went for these in my usual size EU40 and they are a perfect fit.
