You’ll have to forgive the infrequent posting; currently trying to settle into something of a rhythm since having our baby girl. Safe to say free time is at a premium right now. So today will be a quick post to go into a little more detail on an outfit I shared recently over on Instagram.
Wearing Madewell courier shirt (size XS); Facade Pattern trousers (size S – extra 10% off with ‘Mademoiselle2022’); autt bag (extra 10% off with ‘Mademoiselle2022’); YSL slides (size EU41); Casetify phone case
Admittedly I don’t look this put together most days. I’d had the luxury of having our in-laws stay, which gave me a hands-free moment to spend ten minutes rifling through my closet to find a pair of trousers that (comfortably) fit. I used a number of the styling tools I’m often referencing.
First, I started with a gradient of colour. Light to dark. Visually, this is calming, appealing, and it naturally draws the eye down. Second, was neutral tones. At least where the clothed elements were concerned. Again another calming element as they’re low contrast when paired together, and I also find that pale colours tend to have a lightness associated with them.
While I didn’t match my accessories, the effect is close enough; the shoes are black, and the bag is a dark chocolate brown. Like for like, and another simple tool when you’re getting dressed in a pinch. The final thing I did was around proportions. The shirt and the pants both have volume to them, so I instead created slimmer proportions through the cuts and baring skin. My arms are exposed, as is my ankle. I also emphasised this by pulling my hair back, and opting for a shoe which was open at the back.
