You don’t have to school me on the timelessness of a blazer; for me, they’ve been a closet essential for over a decade. Choose wisely, and the right one will work with every single outfit, and last you years and years. My first major splurge? One from Helmut Lang. No longer in my closet (fell victim to a ruthless closet purge), but one I think of fondly as it also marked the start of my journey of buying high quality, classic pieces. For me, their high status in my closet is marked by their utility and versatility. Clearly a focal point when I shop these days. Not only has it been a workhorse for the office, but nights out, weekends, city breaks, holidays abroad. You name the place, I’ve found a way to make it work. I like that a blazer adds a certain element of polish, even in oversized silhouettes.
Personally, I tend to prefer a blazer silhouette that hits the hip or longer, as the proportion works well with how I tend to incorporate the piece into my outfits. Cropped blazers have their place, too, but given proportion play is my number one consideration when outfit building these days, I’ve not found a need (yet, anyway!). Highlighting this wardrobe hero, this week I’m sharing five outfits wearing a (classic) blazer. Which one is your favourite?
