Dopamine dressing has been one of the biggest trends of 2022, and I am here for it. But when your daily outfits revolve heavily around neutrals like mine do, it can feel a little out of the box to just throw on a statement accessory to “complete the look”. I’m fully aware this conundrum doesn’t apply to most. I mean, just wear the clothes, right? But, I thought if you’ve spent years resolving to branch out from a basic colour palette like I have, these simple tips might prove useful.
Wearing Everlane alpaca knit sweater; Chanel brooch; FRONTROW nylon trousers (code Mademoiselle2022 for 12% off); About Arianne flats (old); O My Bag bucket bag (10% off with MADEMOISELLE10)
- Opt for muted colours; don’t exclusively look at this as adding pastels to your closet. You can still wear something with a serious depth of colour (like the pants I have on above), just dial back the vibrancy to maximise wearability.
- Anchor it with neutrals; allow that “colourful” piece to be the hero, while all other components can play a supporting role.
- Go tonal; play with varying saturation levels and different textures. You’ll find it’s just as easy on the eye as a top to toe cream/beige or all black look.
