There’s truly no better way to set the mood, than having two musicians sullenly grace the runway to play musical instruments stationed at the far end. ‘de’ represents more than just clothing, as Jacobs puts it, it is a personal culture. What we saw was a stark contrast between light and dark, and a clever use of texture and layers to create a look that was multi-dimensional on many levels. There was a real sense that this is a wild child, one who stands up against authority, frayed at the edges both figuratively and literally. Models seemed to embody the…
Twenty-Seven Names kicked off Fashion Week and boy did it deliver. Mariah Carey’s sweet melodies blasted out of speakers, setting the scene for their Autumn/Winter 2014 collection, ‘I’m Lost’. Inspired by the surrealist artworks of Rene Magritte, Rachel and Anjali took cues from Magritte’s famed symbols – the bowler hat and hearts a prominent feature in the collection. The collection strongly captures the Twenty-Seven Names aesthetic, the girl at a crossroads between dressing in floaty feminine dresses and all silk ensembles versus the tomboy in cuffed trousers, matching page boy blazer and bowler hat. Rachel and Anjali unabashedly design for…
Only stripe dress, T by Alexander Wang cardigan, Isabel Marant dicker boots, Proenza Schouler PS11 bag, Adia Kibur necklace It’s the weekend before Fashion Week, that one last calm before the storm hits and you find yourself completely rushed off your feet. Not that I’m complaining of course, there’s nothing like a little adrenaline (or coffee) to keep you going when you’d otherwise rather be curled up on a plush couch watching your favourite TV series (Homeland for those wondering). We took these photo’s a few weeks back on one of those uncharacteristically warm winter days, which rather predictably happened…
Sometimes, when I’m searching for a pair of shoes, I feel a little like Prince Charming must have felt as he searched out Cinderella with her dainty glass slipper. Nothing seems quite right, and the pair that I forever seem to be looking for is all elusive. For me, it’s the hunt for the perfect pair of black heels. A bit of height, a slightly pointed toe, and a patent or suede finish isn’t a lot to ask for, but it seems surprisingly difficult to find a serious contender. While I tend to turn to designer shoes for most of…
Topshop wide collar pea coat I know how difficult it can be to find a coat for winter, so when I come across a style I like, I’m pretty quick to add it to my wardrobe, within reason of course. Considering how few coats I actually own, you can imagine that this doesn’t happen very often. I spotted this Topshop peacoat while in Karen Walker earlier today, and while they didn’t have my size in-store, a quick search on the Topshop website yielded the coat in question. I missed out on that coat from Isabel Marant’s Etoile line some years…
