Happy Friday! It’s been so cold in Sydney as of late, that I couldn’t think of a better time to talk through some of my most worn items for Autumn, now that we’re officially in the throes of winter. Safe to say that I really found myself reaching for the classics a lot the last few months. So, in no particular order…

01 | Ivory oversized knit sweater
Autumn started late this year but one of the first pieces in my wardrobe that I started reaching for as soon as the cold weather hit was my oversized knit sweater from Joseph (also here). I’d been looking to add a nice oversized rollneck to my wardrobe for a while, and this has been the perfect addition; because it’s a creamy ivory hue it pairs effortlessly with everything in my wardrobe, it’s 100% wool which makes it super toasty to wear, and the ribbed detail down the sleeves and back set it apart from any other basic sweater. It was a little bit of an investment, but experience has taught me that some of the most worn items in my wardrobe have been classic styles like this one.

02 | Bone straight leg jeans
2018 has been my year of denim; I’ve finally found myself branching outside of my comfort zone and into more relaxed styles of jeans. The cheeky straight leg jean from Everlane have become a fast favourite – these have a tapered fit through the leg which I find makes them slightly easier to wear than your typical straight denim style. I picked these up in the ‘bone’ shade, which have proven to be incredibly versatile and fit right in with the direction of my autumn wardrobe. I made a few steps to try and diversify my cold weather colour palette (past years I’ve usually just reached for all black), and these have been the ticket to creating a lot of those more relaxed outfits.

03 | Mid-blue frayed hem skinny jeans
I’ve probably had my eye on RE/Done denim for the last 18 months or so, and I finally bit the bullet on a pair of their skinny jeans earlier this year. Needless to say, I’ve been pretty impressed. The denim is sturdy but soft, I love the high rise on this style, the button fly is a nice touch (given it’s not too common!), and the frayed hems add a bit of unexpected contrast. I like wearing these most belted at the waist (coming later in the post) with either a little silky cami when the weather is warmer, or a nice chunky knit sweater.

04 | Longline check blazer
It was pretty obvious from the moment I received this longline check blazer from Storm (similar option here) that it was going to become a wardrobe workhorse. This is a lightweight style and I like that it doesn’t have too much structure; it strikes a nice balance between a casual style and something a little more formal. The cut is a bit longer than some of my other blazers so I when pairing this with trousers I like to add in balance by wearing some heels.

05 | Khaki utility jacket
This next autumn essential is a piece that I managed to snap up on sale last year; a khaki utility jacket from Workshop (similar here). I opted to reach for this over a trench coat for those cooler autumn days, as I loved the oversized fit and it really spoke to that colour palette I was trying to incorporate into my closet. This is a unisex style so it fits a little oversized on me (I got the XS), though I tend to cinch it in at the waist to help give it a bit more shape.

06 | Black leather tote bag
Five days out of seven I’m at the office for my day job, and my bag of choice is always a great tote bag. They’re practical, effortlessly easy to style, and they’re classically timeless. I have three on regular rotation but the one I’ve probably reached for the most over the autumn season has to be this structured style from Cuyana. It’s my second bag from the brand and I’m really pleased with how it’s been holding up – the pebbled leather doesn’t have a single scratch, and I’m so glad that it’s lined unlike their classic tote style. A huge winner in my books and if you’d like to get a bit more insight into my thoughts on this bag, you can check out my review and comparison video HERE.

07 | Black suede pointed toe pumps
One of my most worn items day to day is a pair of classic black pumps, and over autumn I found myself reaching for a gorgeous statement pair from Charlotte Olympia, with the iconic gold heel (old but this style is very similar). These have a pointed toe with a bow detail across the vamp, but it really is that gold heel which makes these a stand out for me – it’s an unexpected but incredibly eye-catching detail that gets a lot of compliments. These have been a great one to dress up more laid back looks, plus because they’re a black suede they pair well with tights too.

08 | Black leather loafers
When it comes to investing in my wardrobe, I often like to try out a high street dupe of a designer style. I’ve had my eye on the Gucci Jordaan loafers for a while now, but just haven’t been sure if I can justify the price tag, so I figured I’d test out the style to see whether it was something I’d reach for regularly. I opted to pick up the Sam Edelman loafers (these are a nice alternative), and they’ve been a great addition to my wardrobe. I love the squared off toe and the gold horsebit detail across the foot, plus they’re incredibly comfortable.

09 | Black leather belt
I’ve been upping the ante on my accessories game, and one of the most used additions to my wardrobe over the last six months has been a gorgeous black leather belt from Isabel Marant. I got lucky and managed to snap this up on sale. I tend to like silver hardware on my accessories which has made this a great go-to for me, and it’s the perfect width for wearing on both the hip and the waist.

10 | Gold spiral earrings
The final item I wanted to talk about which has been one of my most worn items of the season, are these spiral earrings from Reliquia. It takes me a bit of time to bite the bullet on a new jewellery purchase – these tend to be more of an investment and I want to be sure that it’s going to be something I reach for on repeat. It probably took me a good six months to finally splurge on these earrings, and I haven’t had any regrets. The spiral coil design makes these otherwise simple hoops pretty special, plus they transition effortlessly from day to night.
