As many of us face the new reality of self-isolation, physical or social distancing, and working from home, I thought I might start to share what I’m wearing more regularly in a more informal way. Admittedly, if I was to show you what I wore over the last four days, you’d see a common theme; sweat pants. And I’m sure I’m not alone in this. But as I slowly ease myself back into work, I’ve found the quickest motivation booster has been to put on a comfy outfit that I feel really good in, that looks cute too.
Wearing Everlane pima cotton tank; Sezane Augustino Sweater (love this version in cotton); Everlane authentic stretch skinny jeans; Everlane snake print editor slingback heels; Linjer Lana bag; Missoma earrings; Missoma bracelet
If you watched my anti-haul video a few months back, then you will have seen me mention this cardigan. Cardigans buttoned up and worn as sweaters has been a big trend over the last six months or so. While I don’t tend to jump on trends very often, this one felt both classic enough and in line with my style. At the time, I talked myself out of the purchase. The pointelle detail didn’t seem quite practical enough for me (particularly with nursing). The fabric included mohair, which is notorious for being scratchy on the skin. Not to mention that returns to Sezane are far from easy (or cheap!) if you live in Australia like me. But 30 days later, I still couldn’t stop thinking about it, and decided to take a risk and go through with the purchase.
And while I love the design, the way it hangs on the body, and the beautiful enamel covered buttons, it’s far from perfect. Mostly, it’s the hand feel of the fabric that lets it down. One thing I’ve come to determine over the years of looking for the perfect “….”, is that we often need to make concessions with our wardrobes, and it’s when we stop looking, that we learn to be content with what we have. Keeping that in mind, plus the high cost of actually sending it back, I decided to hang on to the cardigan. I’m hoping that it’ll soften up after a few cycles in the washing machine.
I also wanted to touch on the jeans quickly too as they’ve been all I’ve worn in the past week or so; well, when I wasn’t in sweat pants, I mean. The wash I’m wearing is called the ‘mid-blue distressed’, and I have these on in a size 26, ankle length. I love a good distressed hem, as it adds a little bit of interest at the ankle, and usually means the jeans will have a slightly cropped length. Perfect for me, as I have a rather short inseam for my height. The denim is pretty weighty; it’s substantial, while having a decent amount of stretch, to the point that the jeans are like wearing leggings. Perfect for days spent at home. Plus after wearing them at least seven times now, there hasn’t been any visible stretching or bagging out of the fabric.
