Autumn Outfit #4: Babaa knit + camel mini skirt

Autumn Style wearing a Babaa no17 sweater and Lune Resort central skirt Babaa no17 sweater and Chanel vintage classic flap bag

Making an effort with my outfits has been one of the many ways I’ve been instilling a sense of normality into my day. It may not be for everyone, but for some reason I’ve always found putting on a little bit of makeup, or a cute outfit gives me a good boost of motivation; something I need in spades as I try to juggle being mum to a newborn while working at the same time.

One of the first purchases I made of 2020 was this oversized roll neck sweater from Babaa. I’d first discovered the brand a couple years back, and had always been curious about their knitted pieces. Originally, I’d had it in my mind to add one of Babaa’s cotton cardigans to my wardrobe. In the end, I settled on the no17 sweater, as I thought this would make a cosy winter addition to my wardrobe, while still feeling very much in line with my style manifesto.

It’s still pretty warm in Sydney – supposedly 28 deg C today, in fact – but I’m taking advantage of how cool it is in the house, and busting out the chunky knit sweaters early. For now, I’ll be wearing them with mini skirts and tailored shorts; transitioning to leggings, straight leg jeans and tapered trousers once winter settles in.

Accessories are definitely where I’ve been keeping it simple. Admittedly, most days I’m not wearing a bag (and when I am, it’s typically been this one). If I were styling this up properly, then I’d go for the classic vintage Chanel flap above. Despite my height, I actually really like how this looks worn cross body. It feels a little like an extension of my jewellery, which gives an added element of visual interest when paired with such a chunky knit.

Jewellery-wise, I’m wearing all my favourites. The Laura Lombardi earrings I treated myself to a couple weeks back. These have been a replacement for the Reliquia earrings I’ve owned for a couple years now, which never wore very well. The bracelet is one I bought during the Black Friday sales last year from Missoma. I completely fell for the Lucy Williams collection, and found it hard to narrow it down to just a couple pieces. Then we have my Fedoma Jewellery and Chupi rings. I don’t reach for much else as these two rings alone are enough to jazz up my fingertips.

And then we have the shoes. I’m slowly making my way through the 7 pairs of sneakers I’ve set out to test for my new “best basics” series on YT. But I do like to mix it up with a pointed toe shoe. These Everlane slingbacks completely replaced my desire for a similar (more expensive) pair from Mansur Gavriel. The squared off vamp is probably my favourite detail!

I love that you’ve featured your Babaa sweater! How are you finding it so far? I finally got my hands on the no.19 wool cardigan (second hand) last year. While at first, I didn’t find it very practical due to how oversized it is, I’ve actually been living in it the past several weeks of working from home. It was really itchy for me at first but somehow, magically, it doesn’t bother me now.

Also, that Chanel flap!! I hope you’re planning on formally introducing it to us all soon šŸ™‚

Hi Tammy! It’s a beauty isn’t it? Really looking forward to wearing it this winter, along with a navy merino crew I have from L’Envers. I have to admit, I was incredibly taken aback by HOW oversized it was when it arrived. I was heading into my final weeks of pregnancy, and couldn’t believe how well it still fit me even then LOL. I do agree, it’s itchy at the moment, though I’m hoping I’ll have the same experience as you and it will soften up. Our house gets very cold in the winter time so I suspect this will be a great piece for me to have as I try to avoid running the heating 24/7.

And yes, I will be doing a review and “story time” only my YT channel soon šŸ™‚ I really need to get my A into G and film the LV Neverfull Review, as this will come after that šŸ˜€

Thank you so much Karin! Hope that you’re keeping well through this self-isolation (I’m a little behind on reading blogs at the moment – #newmumlife) xx

So glad I found this post! Iā€™m contemplating the Babaa no. 15 (also O/S) but am wary of it being too oversized on me. Iā€™m 5ā€™6ā€ and about 130lbs. Can you share your height? This is an older post – have you found the wool has softened in time? Iā€™m particularly curious about neck itchiness. Thanks!

Hi Gillian! So I’m 5’8″ or 172cm tall. As for the knit, I actually ended up selling it in favour of this one from Marle (https://bit.ly/3Mn0WKv) which I preferred. For me the timing just wasn’t right. I got it late into my first pregnancy, and hadn’t considered how rough the wool might feel against the skin of a newborn/baby. So, I never found myself reaching for it. That said, Hannah Louise Poston did a VERY thorough review on her YouTube channel that is worth watching as she shares insights. She has both the dyed and undyed knits x
