Children’s Christmas Gift Guide

Childrens Christmas Gift Guide

My second gift guide for Christmas is tailored alllll around the little loves in our lives. It’s skewed a little more towards boys, but I have included a few unisex options – especially in the “toys”, “books”, and “nursery decor” sections.

Above is a little peek at some of the gifts we’ve already purchased for our son, along with a couple of his favourite board books. When I started thinking about toys, I wanted to select things which were a little more interactive. And the first thing that came to mind was a music set. I ended up going with this vintage-inspired four-piece set from Konges Slojd, which includes a tambourine/drum, maracas, wooden clackers, and a xylophone.

The second more interactive gift I picked out was a beach bucket set from Liewood. I especially love this brand for their minimal, Scandi aesthetic, and they do cute and playful options for both boys and girls. Each piece is silicone, so has that soft component to it. Easy for packing, and I like that the scoop has a reinforced handle so it isn’t floppy.

From a clothing perspective, so far I’ve picked up a pair of seagull board shorts from Country Road. I thought that these were so sweet, and I didn’t realise until later, but they’re made from recycled materials; very cool. We’ll also be giving him this reversible top and leggings set from Boden (top is here, and leggings are here // *PR gifted). Over the winter we had a fun polar bear sweatsuit set, which he wore on repeat, so I just know that he’s going to get a lot of wear out of this.

I’d hoped that mīere would be ready to launch in time for Christmas (as our sweet basics would make perfect gifts for baby!), but due to production delays, we’ve had to push this back to early 2021. Cannot wait to share our children’s wear brand with you all when it’s ready though!

And finally, one of our other favourites are great board books. The most beautiful one we own was gifted to us by a friend; ‘Imagine’ by Alison Lester. The illustrations are just stunning, and as your child grows older, a great way to familiarise them with different animals. Our other favourites are ‘Opposites’ by Roald Dahl (this has flaps you can life); and for obvious reasons, the classic ‘Hairy Maclary from Donaldson’s Dairy’ by Lynley Dodd – a favourite from my childhood, too.

TOYS

When it comes to children’s toys, I tend to favour anything wooden, or with an imaginative component. Think “inactive” toys. You can probably see that in the gifts we’ve gotten our son already; I love the idea of buying things which will encourage him to practice general motor skills and coordination.

BOOKS

It might just be our son, but he tires of ‘reading’ the same book over and over, so we’ve been slowly building up our library. I tend to opt for board books where possible, as they’re less likely to get destroyed by inquisitive little hands.

CLOTHING

Our son’s S/S wardrobe is basically complete, but one thing I am starting to think about is adding to his A/W wardrobe for 2021. I often like to shop ahead (and out of season), so I’ll be looking to some of my favourite retailers in the Northern Hemisphere to add some ‘unique’ pieces to his closet. Right now, I’m eyeing up a load of things from Arket Kids, and my other favourite place to shop (for brands like Bobo Choses etc) is BabyShop.

BACKPACKS

This one’s for the older kids, but I thought, what a fun gift to give your child (or loved one) at Christmas. Plus, it’s fun to see what they decide is essential to “carry” around with them when you head out and about!

NURSERY DECOR & MISC

Technically less of a gift for kids, and probably a little more for you – particularly if they’re still quite little. But, it’s a chance to give your child’s room a little refresh, or add in those final touches. Especially once all those Black Friday sales kick in.
