Favourite Outfits of 2018

To finish my wrap up of the year that was, I wanted to quickly run through my ten favourite outfits of 2018. More so on my YouTube channel, I’ve talked a little bit about how I found myself feeling a little bit ‘lost’ with my wardrobe last year, and for me, these signify some key looks that I’ll be drawing on to inspire me for the seasons ahead. Starting from January, let’s go through the year in fashion chronologically, starting with…

beige ruffle dress + tan suede heels + beige patent chain belt
This dress was one of my favourite pre-loved finds; it’s fabricated from a gorgeous soft woven silk, and has a pretty frill detail at the sleeves and along the hemline, which make for an interesting detail. While I don’t have much reason to wear this dress anymore, I still can’t help but hang onto it. I feel really pretty whenever I throw it on, and I like that it can be dressed up or dressed down.

Favourite Outfits of 2018

pink silk cami + white denim mini + grey cardigan + grey suede slingbacks
I love this little combo so much that I wore it again recently without even realising. That to me is a good indicator that you’re onto a winning outfit combination. The silk camisole from Grana is among my favourites; the double layered silk is substantive but wispy, and I love the barely there spaghetti thin straps.

Favourite Outfits of 2018

ivory sweater + faded black skinny jeans + camel belted coat + two tone pumps
If there was one outfit that stood out as my overall favourite of 2018, it’s this one. It’s a cosy look that felt luxurious at the same time, and it was when I really found my feet with winter styling, something I really struggled with in 2017. Given I tend to wear more monochromatic looks, I also really loved how the camel coat finished everything off and added ‘warmth’ to the outfit.

Favourite Outfits of 2018

beige oversized sweater + white straight leg jeans + beige sandals
Similar to the previous outfit, I loved this look. The light colour palette really works for me as a cold weather styling combination, and it reminded me how much I’d love to invest in a turtleneck sweater from Celine, which is top of my clothing wishlist for 2019. This was an outfit I wore around winter time, and I actually really liked the juxtaposition of the MNZ sandals, which aren’t really a natural fit during that time of year.

Favourite Outfits of 2018

pink turtleneck sweater + faded black denim skirt + black pumps
This to me signifies the height of my turtleneck obsession, and my continuing love of Stella McCartney. Winter arrived very late in 2018 so I found myself being able to go barelegged even in August. Given so many of my favourite looks were monochromatic, I actually liked that this one had a point of difference. The blush pink hue of the sweater broke up an otherwise very neutral outfit, and I like how this is balanced with the loose sweater on top, and more fitted skirt on bottom.

Favourite Outfits of 2018

black linen wrap dress + black t-bar sandals
Portmans isn’t a store I would usually think to shop at, but I’ve been l-o-v-i-n-g a lot of their linen styles for spring/summer. This black dress is a clear dupe

for a style from Isabel Marant, which I’d previously been considering buying. I like the frill detail on the sleeves, which gives the upper half of the dress a more dramatic flair, and the wrap detail cinches in the waist and is incredibly flattering. I paired these back with some simple t-bar sandals which have been a fantastic addition to my summer wardrobe – I love the clean lines and minimal aesthetic that they have.

white tee + faded black skinny jeans + grey wool blazer + two tone pumps
These last few looks have some similar elements, and one constant favourite throughout the year were these faded black skinny jeans. They’re leg lengthening and just so happen to look good with everything. In this instance, I wanted to style them up with my oversized wool blazer from Everlane, which was one of my favourite wardrobe additions of the year. I’d missed out on the original launch in 2017, and it’d been on my wishlist ever since. Good things do come to those who wait. I liked how this was monochromatic and brought in some slightly more androgynous elements.

Favourite Outfits of 2018

white v-neck sweater + faded black denim skirt + black strappy sandals
Key for me when adding anything new to my wardrobe is versatility, an attribute I’ll be thinking about a lot more with my purchases this year, and each element of this outfit has versatility in spades. The v-neck sweater quickly turned into one of my most worn pieces over spring. The lack of colour serves as a blank canvas, and I love the oversized nature of the fit. Loosely tucked into my favourite denim mini, and paired with some block sandals for a slightly more dressed up look. The sandals have turned out to be another great purchase, for anyone wondering. I sat on these for about 12 months before finally biting the bullet, and they’re super comfortable, and really easy to pair with everything.

Favourite Outfits of 2018

white tee + faded black skinny jeans + grey cardigan+ grey suede heels
I wore an outfit just like this one in either 2016 or 2017, and I’m definitely not over it. I love the effortlessly minimal styling, and how just one hero piece can really make an outfit. For this one, it’s definitely that oversized grey cardigan, which I’ve loved wearing this past year. It’s a cashmere piece which I bought pre-loved from a friend, and has fast become one of my favourite style heroes.

Favourite Outfits of 2018

b&w polka dot mini dress + ankle strap pumps
My final favourite outfit of the year features my favourite print: polka dots. What sold me on this dress (aside from the scatter spot print), were the details. I loved the tortoiseshell buttons, the ties at the sleeves, and the flattering v-neckline. So much so, I decided to spring for it in the black too. The dress was definitely the hero of this outfit, so I went simple on the accessories, opting for a ladylike – but comfortable – pair of ankle strap pumps.

Love every outfit especially the first and last! Definitely time to upgrade to Chanel slingbacks! I think you’ve nailed the proportions for shorter dresses and skirts. Prefer this length on you rather than your midi skirts or how you pair them with longer blazers and tote bags. Don’t think the combo works as well. I think you look great in burgundy. But if you are looking at bringing colour to accessories, how about belts as well?
You’re really developing your content, Jamie! I really appreciate your very consistency.
