Over the past few weeks, my inbox has been inundated with brand emails sharing all the latest styles for the season ahead. I mean, Spring (and Autumn for those in the Northern Hemisphere) is well and truly here. While I’m clearly in need of giving my subscriptions a bit of a detox, I figured it’s been a fair while since I cobbled together a wishlist of sorts, so I wanted to round up five transitional wardrobe staples I’ve spotted which I think would be a great addition to any closet.

1 | & Other Stories Oversized Wool Workwear Shirt

I have a funny feeling that oversized heavy wool shirts are going to be a big trend for the season ahead, worn unbuttoned as a layering piece or “jacket” of sorts. On the high end spectrum, Isabel Marant has a gorgeous option, but there are loads on the high street, including the black one above from & Other Stories, this milky checked one from Sezane, and this fringed version from Mango.

My favourite of the bunch is the one above. To me, it’s less trend-focused and more classic. The kind of style you could easily slot into your wardrobe and find yourself reaching for year after year. While I’m in no desperate need of a new jacket – I do live in Sydney after all – I decided that this was one of the few trends I wanted to buy into this season so I pulled the trigger on the & Other Stories version earlier this week. Styling wise, I like the idea of going for a head to toe black look, wearing it as a jacket over a little black slip dress with some fitted ankle booties.

2 | Sezane blue check ‘Becky’ jumper

One goal I had for my wardrobe across the upcoming season was to embrace colour a little bit. While I’m acutely aware that head to toe brights just isn’t me, I do love to add in a muted hue every now and then to keep things interesting. One piece that’s really caught my eye over the last few weeks has been the Becky jumper from Sezane. I’ve talked previously about my experience with Sezane knitwear, and while I’m wary of the fact that it’s a blended fabric, I’m also conscious that not everyone can tolerate 100% wool against their skin. From an aesthetic standpoint though, there’s nothing I don’t love about this sweater. It’s got a slightly boxy fit, a crew-style neckline, the print is a classic, and the blue hue is *just* muted enough.

3 | Roksanda double-wrap belt

I’m not quite sure where this obsession stems from, but I’ve spent the past month or two searching high and low for a double-wrap belt, and I feel like this is the one. Given my styling tends to be rather simplistic, and focused more on how silhouettes in my wardrobe work together as a whole, it’s often the accessories that finish off the look. I’ve personally loved the belted blazer trend, and this Roksanda double wrap belt would be a great compliment to add more definition at the waist and also more bang for your buck. Belts can help add balance and break up a silhouette in all the right ways. For example, a loose shift dress is a fun style to wear, but having that layered texture defining the waist can not only add depth but also have the effect of looking really flattering, too.

4 | Everlane western boots

My sartorial choices have become more about practicality and comfort over the years, and a low block heel is an absolute staple during the cooler seasons. Western-style booties seem to pop up every single year without fail, and I’ve really fallen for Everlane’s modern take on this classic boot. A thick, angled cuban heel, a squared off toe, and an elastic panel to pull them on and off. What drew me to these most is that they don’t feel like a literal interpretation of cowboy boots; instead, it’s a subtle interpretation. Classic black as always is my pick, though the bone and russet suede options are gorgeous too.

5 | Stella McCartney faux leather cropped trousers

This last pick is a total splurge, but judging from what I’ve heard, they’re one worth saving your pennies for. They’re these gorgeous faux leather cropped trousers from Stella McCartney. Truth be told, these aren’t a new “wish”, but rather an item I spotted last season, and have continued to keep saved in my bookmarks. I love the straight leg style, and the cropped cut is one I find particularly flattering for me, especially given I have a rather short inseam. I’d pair these with t-shirts and oversized blazers now, with an oversized sweater and duster coat for winter, and with a silky cami and strappy heeled sandals for a summer evening out.

So those are the five transitional season picks I currently have my eye on. I’d love to know if you have anything special on your wishlist for the season ahead! x
