Absolutely loved this look, and it occurred to me that it’s the ideal last minute outfit for the festive season. Or any season, really. Polished, chic, but playful. And all elements you probably already own in your wardrobe.
Wearing Anna Quan blazer (affordable alternative); Commando faux leather pants; Ganni bow heels; Polene bag; Timeless Pearly earrings; Mejuri necklace
Wearing a blazer as a top isn’t anything new; but… it’s a simple way to elevate a tailored trouser. Personally, I like to just wear a nice black bra underneath. One I wouldn’t be bothered about if someone caught a glimpse of it (whether it’s lacey, or a fully opaque bralette). A longer-line style blazer tends to work best in this instance, as a way of working through proportions. Or anything with a more oversized or masculine bent. And I like to keep the trousers slim but not tight.
A great way to make something this simple – and monochromatic – feel more interesting is to add in texture. I’ve done this through my trousers; a faux leather which add a subdued note of shine. And the shoes too. My phone camera isn’t quite picking it up, but they’re a velvety suede.
I quite often like to have an unexpected detail, or touch of whimsy in my outfits. For this look, it’s the shoes. The exaggerated bow detail at the back of the heel. It’s a powerful feeling look, and these add a softness, bringing some femininity into the balance of the mood. Another way you could do this is through your choice of hair style. A thick padded headband, or a half up-do secured with an embellished pin or bow clip would both be a lovely twist.
There’s so many variations of this outfit that you could pull together. Opting for a statement shoe rather than a subtle monochromatic vibe. Texture in the blazer – like velvet, which is so perfect for those living in the northern hemisphere right now. You could switch out a heel for a sock boot – fitted at the ankle with a block heel for comfort to dance the night away. Give it a more casual vibe with denim instead of tailored trousers. For me, it’s this idea which creates the perfect starting point from which to branch off based on where the evening will take me.
Just one more sleep until Christmas, and wishing you all the merriest of festive celebrations, whether it’s a low key affair with a handful of loved ones, or the coming together of all your extended family after almost two years apart.
