I was pretty intrigued when I saw that Laura Mercier’s most recent blush was not only a cream formula, but described as a “tinted moisturizer”. Both in my twenties and also now, I’ve always championed a less is more approach to my base, so love the concept of products which enhance rather than conceal. This seemed right up my alley. The Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer Blush comes in 14 shades (15ml) and retails for $28 USD / $45 AUD.
From left to right, I have the colours; Provence (pale pink nude), Corsica (sparkling peach), Mediterranee (pale coral nude), French Riviera (red chocolate) and La Piscine (pale baby pink).
PACKAGING
The blush packaging has been given a similar treatment to Laura Mercier’s Tinted Moisturizer (a fave of mine). It’s a slimline tube with a narrow nozzle. Perfect for travel, and you have a fair amount of control over how much product you dispense at one time. I also like that on first glance you can immediately see what colour you’re reaching for.
FORMULA & COLOURS
Described as a natural, long-lasting cheek colour which is ultra moisturising and gives 12 hours of weightless tinted hydration. The formula contains raspberry seed to condition the skin, and prickly pear for hydration. Best applied with fingers.
After having this in my blush wardrobe for the past couple of months, I have thoughts. First is that I think the name is ever so slightly misleading. I almost expected the finish to be reminiscent of their beloved Tinted Moisturizer. Instead, the formula sets down, and doesn’t really have a dewy finish like the word moisturiser might suggest. But I find it has more so the effect of appearing one with the skin, in that it’s not glossy, sparkly or particularly matte. This is great for longevity, and I’ve come to find I can rely pretty heavily on that wear time. It’s not a blush I feel I need to top up late in the day.
While it does dry down, you have plenty of time to blend it into the skin before it has set. That said, if you get particularly distracted, you may like to apply the product to one cheek at a time. As if you leave it too long, it’ll look patchy. I’d recommend taking a small amount on the back of the hand, and dotting it where you’d like to focus the blush. Fingers are recommended for application, but I find I get a nicer, more even finish when using a fluffy synthetic brush.
In terms of colour payoff, these are comparable to the Glossier Cloud Paint blushes, in that a little goes a long way. And, the colour is easy to build up, if you want more of an intense blush look. You can see in the image, that I went a little heavy with the colour. Also opting for one of the darker shades (which would be gorgeous on deep skin tones); French Riviera.
LAURA MERCIER TINTED MOISTURIZER BLUSH FINAL THOUGHTS
Overall, the Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer Blush has been a total win for me. The format is exactly what I look for; cream, easy to apply, and pigmented (but not so much that I can’t control it on my complexion). I like that these can essentially be applied on the go, and while they’ve been tested for use on the eyes and lips, I’ve tried the latter and wouldn’t say it really “worked” for me. Given how the product sets though, I think it’d be a great option for doubling up as a shadow for a seamless makeup look.
You’re also getting a lot of bang for your buck. Given how little product you need for each application, it’s going to take a seriously long time to get through one of these tubes. So, value for money is absolutely there.
My favourite shades are Corsica and Mediterranee; I find the peachy tones work really well with my complexion, especially during the warmer months.
