The novelty of wearing something comfy and cosy is still yet to wear off; especially as I juggle caring for a 10-week-old baby, with working full-time. I’ve embraced it wholeheartedly, which has had me thinking about how I can maximise those loungewear staples that I’m wearing now, once social distancing measures are relaxed.
I’ve partnered up with Everlane in today’s post to share how I’m currently wearing three versatile loungewear staples at home, plus how I plan to incorporate them into my “every day” wardrobe. Oh and for the record, we can probably assume I’m wearing slippers with every one of these outfits at home..
THE T-SHIRT DRESS
Let’s start with an easy one; the t-shirt dress. I particularly love this style as a) it’s sleeveless; b) it’s a super-soft cotton; c) the midi length; and d) there’s a cute side slit on the left leg. It’s one of those easy, throw on at home pieces which you’ll still feel great in, without adding in any additional styling elements.
For home, I’m wearing this paired with cosy knitwear. My favourite alpaca sweater worn over top (belted if I’m feeling fancy), or knotted at the waist if it gets a little too warm. Alternatively, I’ve been loving how this looks worn with a cardigan. The more oversized the better! Because of the midi length, you can get away with wearing both a cropped or longline cardigan. Personally I feel like this oversized grandpa style would look incredible, and knowing my love of neutrals, I’d opt to go for the camel hue.
For later, I want to wear this dress with one of my favourite transitional season staples; a leather jacket. There’s a juxtaposition going on with the fabrics which I think works really well. You have the soft texture of the cotton t-shirting, paired against a textured leather which has a nice shine to it. A more vintage style, like this one from Everlane, would look great too. It’s a fail-safe way to instantly dress up the outfit. Plus, I paired it with these reknit heeled mules for good measure. The added height transforms the look, while the low block heel makes them such an easy shoe to walk in.
THE ATHLETIC LEGGING
Athleisure is such a huge trend – probably because it mixes that loungewear sensibility with a street edge – and never one to jump on a bandwagon too quickly, I’m clearly very late to the party. I love the fact that you can quickly go from lounging to doing a light workout – something I’ve been making the most of during the small pockets of time when I don’t have a baby asleep in my arms!
For home, I’m wearing the Everlane perform leggings with one of their tank bras, and a snuggly cardigan thrown over top. Like with the midi dress look, when it comes to knitwear and lounging at home; bigger is better. There’s cosy textures paired with super soft, comfortable fabrics (I have a couple tank bras from Everlane and love wearing these to sleep too!). If you were headed out the door for a walk, you could button up the cardigan, and add some sneakers, and you’re all set.
For later, I want to combine the relaxed nature of the leggings with an element of tailoring. An oversized blazer is an easy choice, and instantly shifts the tone of the outfit. I decided to go monochrome for a couple reasons. Firstly, it’s an effortless way to put together an outfit which looks chic. But primarily, it shifts the focus away from the leggings and gives them more of a fitted pant vibe. To finish it off, I’ve worn a loose tee (the air tees are my favourite), and a pair of pointed toe ankle boots.
THE RELAXED JEAN
The final look is centred around these distressed jeans. Denim probably isn’t the first thing that comes to mind when you think of loungewear, but these are so darn soft and don’t feel restrictive like some of my other jeans do.
For home, I’m pairing this with sweaters borrowed from the boys, quite literally. The sweatshirt I’m wearing above is from the men’s section; a gold mine for cosy loungewear that has a perfectly oversized fit. If I want to make a little bit of extra effort, I’d do a quick French tuck, pull my hair into a low bun, and layer on a couple of necklaces.
For later, I’m still wearing a sweater, but this time I’ve gone for texture. The knit I have one above is the link-stitch sweater; it’s 100% cotton (perfect if you can’t wear wool) so it’s got quite a bit of heft to it. This time I’d definitely do a French tuck (my style hack 90% of the time I’m wearing knitwear), and then I also opted for a low block heel – this is the editor slingback. Anything with a pointy toe will do. Because the jeans are heavily distressed, they need some extra work if you want to dress them up. If you’re not a fan of a heel or pointed toe shoes in general, I’d opt for some slides (like these slip on loafers), or a simple white sneaker. It’s starting to get chilly here so I also added my cotton quilted jacket for good measure.
So there you have it, three loungewear staples in my wardrobe that I’m reaching for now, but also plan to style up later.
Thanks again to Everlane for partnering with me on this post.
