Ahh the old wardrobe wishlist. Once the cornerstone of all my sartorial purchases, these days it’s felt like a bit of a moving beast. Rolling in and out with the tide, as items I liked one month fall out of favour the next. Quite telling of the state of my closet, and that what’s on my wishlist these days is more of a “nice to have” than a “had to have”.

That said, I wanted to shine a light on a new wardrobe addition (gifted), that was on my wishlist. A navy nylon trench coat. I have a few trench coats already (this Maxmara one often ends up on repeat), all in slightly different shades of stone and beige. Classic, but variations of a theme. I wanted something that stood out and had a point of difference, the colour being the key element here. Also, it was to serve as a replacement for a Dress Up trench I owned some years ago in black, that I sorely regret decluttering.
Navy felt like a safe bet. For one thing, it’s a softer alternative to black, in that it creates less contrast, while still being just as versatile. For the fabrication, I was after a nylon. I figured this could go either way; light and airy, or give some good weight to the jacket. This style does the latter. It is double lined, comes to mid calf, and has a nice drape through the body. Perhaps my favourite detail? The belted cuffs. These create shape and volume at the sleeve, which while subtle, is a design detail I can really appreciate.
I wore it here with an all black look; despite there being “style rules” that suggest not pairing the two, I personally enjoy the pairing.
Next on my wishlist that I’d really like to buy? This silky slip skirt from Australian designer Lee Mathews. Anything that you’re currently eying up?
Hi Jamie! I was the year above you at WGC and remember you well. I find your blog and instagram so inspiring – you have really influenced my personal style as a mid 30’s mum-of-two! I adore your classic, neutral styling and while you always look so “put together”, there’s still an element of comfort and practicality which I love especially with two littlies to chase after!
Thank you for inspiring me. Wishing you well xx
