Traditionally known as Ladies’ Day, Oaks Day celebrates women. It’s the perfect opportunity on the Spring Racing calendar to indulge in your femininity and express your signature style. Pastel hues and florals reign supreme, so shy away from the darker tones in your closet. It’s also an opportunity to bring out that vintage look you’ve been saving for a special occasion.

OAKS DAY STYLE GUIDE

What to wear | On Oaks Day you’ll see a sea of dainty lace numbers, sophisticated embroidery, and floaty chiffons over more structural fits. Sheer details will be key this year, along with exaggerated sleeves and bows, ruffles and feminine silhouettes. Along with pink, ice blue is tipped to be the colour of the day; of which you’ll find no shortage of this season as the cool-toned hue has featured prominently in Australian designers collections. Despite Oaks Day being labelled as ladies day, suiting is still a top trend for 2019 racing season. A baby pink suit would be a stand out among the crowd of soft feminine silhouettes.

The perfect headpiece | Pardon the pun but a crown headpiece would be the perfect way to complement your feminine outfit. If you’re planning on wearing a statement lace or embroidered dress, keep the rest of your look simple, by pairing it with a delicate headband (perhaps with a few dazzling jewels, flowers or pearls) or some pearly hair clips.

Accessorise | Glitzy jewelled earrings are a great accessory to complete your Oaks Day outfit. If you’re buying something new, try and find a pair that would look equally fabulous paired with a simple tee and denim combo (I’m all about getting a good CPW). For something truly special, you could splash out and get a pair of earrings from Mercedes Salazar and Ranjana Khan.

Aside from being the time for feminine elegance, romantic looks and delicate fabrics, Oaks Day is truly an opportunity for women to connect, celebrate being women and enjoy the Melbourne Cup Carnival.
