Wrapping up the week in another denim look. These Madewell jeans are fast becoming one of my most worn items – something I see myself reaching for again and again throughout the next three weeks. When I first started building my 30X30 wardrobe, one thing I wanted to try and do was break out of the cycle of wearing denim on repeat. In a way, I felt like I was starting to fall into a style rut where I no longer felt excited about what I was wearing each day.
Wearing Everlane pima cotton tank; Country Road cardigan (old but this will give a similar look); Madewell skinny jeans* (also here); Everlane pointed toe flats*; Cuyana tote bag; Ana Luisa necklace* (10% off with ‘Mademoiselle10’)
It’s a little ironic, given I’ve always talked up the benefits of a style uniform. Something I’ve utilised for years to take the guesswork out of getting dressed each morning. To get to the point, I think it’s probably the lack of variety. As a new mum, I’ve relied on one basic style uniform for autumn/winter. Jeans and an oversized knit sweater with a simple tee worn underneath for layering. If I take anything away from this 30 day capsule, it’s that I need to figure out one or two additional styling options which are easy to reach for. Even if it’s just switching out the jeans for some trousers.
Back to the outfit… We spent a good chunk of the day catching up with one of my girlfriends at a nearby park, so I wanted to wear something easy-going and comfortable. I’ve gone for one of my favourite “trends” the cardigan, worn buttoned up as a sweater. It’s a bit of a no brainer, but in the past I only ever saw a cardigan as a layering piece. Given versatility is something I look for a lot in my wardrobe, you can understand why it’s been such a big hit with me.
For shoes, I went with my 40 hour flats from Everlane. I reviewed these a few months back, and they’ve gone on to be one of my most worn pairs of shoes. I sized up from my usual US9.5 to a US10, which gave me extra width across the foot. I find I can walk really long distances in these, which I put down to the ultra soft leather, and the bouncy soles (which bonus, have tread on them).
Not pictured is the second bag I had on me – my Celine trio. I’ve found that if I’m heading out somewhere, that I like to have a tote (at the base of the pram), as well as a smaller cross body with the essentials (worn on my person).
