I definitely had one of those lazy weekends. No makeup, and aside from two 5K walks outside, I was snuggled up indoors with our little one. When it came to getting dressed, I focused both my outfits around wanting to wear a central piece.

On Saturday, that item was my Everlane alpaca sweater. This is super light and fluffy, and provides the perfect amount of warmth for a Sydney winter. Part of the reason why I think I’m so drawn to this particular sweater is because it’s got a nice oversized fit, while still being thin enough to comfortably tuck into skinny jeans. I also love that puffy ribbed detail around the collar, too.

I went for something simple overall. I messily tucked the knit into some skinny jeans, and finished it off with a pointed toe flat. Sneakers may have been the more obvious (and practical!) choice though.

On Sunday I got it in my head that I wanted to wear my Karen Walker linen trousers. I’ve been so happy with these since getting them taken up at the tailor, and love how effortless they’ve been to style.

What I always liked about capsule wardrobes was how they encouraged and inspired me to be creative with what I had. If I wanted a “fresh” new outfit, I’d look in my closet first to see what I could come up with. Pinterest of course being a good place to start to get some inspiration.

If I hadn’t been documenting my outfits daily, I probably would have been inclined to wear my alpaca knit for a second day running, but instead looked at what other options I had. I settled on the Country Road cardigan (worn as a top). What cinched it for me is how the undertone matched that of the trousers – it’s a key trick I often use when combining colours or going monochrome.

Shoes were the tricky part. I tried on all four pairs to see which combination I liked most, and found that the Vaneli two tone pumps worked best. These have the same undertone as the trousers and cardigan, plus I thought they added an elevated feel despite being very comfortable to wear.
