I’m the type of person who will sit on a furniture addition for months. Years, even. I like to think of myself as being considered when it comes to shopping for my closet, but for the home I take this to a whole new level as there’s such value in waiting and getting to understand how you want to best use your space. So it’s a momentous occasion when we finally settle on a new piece to bring into our home. My latest addition is a piece I coveted for over a year; the Sagitine Shanghai Box Stand (pictured in off white).
I’d been seeking out a piece that had a clean and minimal feel, that would act as an additional storage solution. But I also didn’t want to be limited by a piece that only worked in my office. I’m often moving things around so there needed to be an element of versatility too.
Clearly, the Sagitine Shanghai Box Stand ticked all the boxes. Practical luxury, that allows me to easily organise and compartmentalise a variety of items. The design is understated, while still feeling quite striking with the walnut top. And I’m pleased to report that it’s turned out to be the perfect multipurpose storage solution.
What can you store inside?
I’m currently using my Sagitine Stand to store a selection of small accessories, lesser used (small) handbags, and of course… shoes! Though I could see these being using to store scarves, knitwear, small tech accessories, children’s toys, lingerie, jewellery, make up products etc etc. The only limitation to what you can use these for really being the size.
I’ve seen others use these in their entryway to organise keys, hats and the like, or in lieu of a dresser in the bedroom (with mirror above for getting ready in the morning), or if you opted for one of the smaller stands, as a beside dresser.
Quality & the Details
Each storage box is constructed using high-grade biodegradable and recycled card; they have a sturdy robust quality which doesn’t buckle when pressure is applied. While I haven’t tried to sit on them, from a general wear and tear standpoint, I appreciate that they aren’t precious – especially as a mother with two young kids who can’t help but sneak a peek inside at every opportunity.
They slide open by tugging on a leather pull tab, which are interchangeable using a flathead screwdriver to adjust (there’s so many fun colour options on the Sagitine site). These are made from a grained leather and feel as luxurious to the touch as some of the bags I have tucked away inside them.
The powder coated aluminium frame is sturdy, and has “feet” at the base which can be adjusted to ensure that it doesn’t wobble. The top is timber hardwood, a beautiful walnut (this is a slightly softer wood so maintenance and care is key!).
Final thoughts
The wait was worth it. Chic and elegant, the stands add in a muted touch of design into my space, and the hyper-functionality of it speaks to my inner desire to find versatility in the items I bring into our home. You can see how I’ve stacked two of the Sagitine Shanghai Box Stands side by side, and I love that they give the impression of a traditional dresser.
The size of each box is roomy; enough to fit two regular shoes stacked side by side, or up to four pairs of slimmer styles like sandals.
A splurge indeed, but one designed to feel luxurious in your space, and they’ve been well executed. Even the unboxing experience feels luxurious. It’s the type of home addition that is designed to grow and evolve with you; perhaps you start by using it as storage for children’s toys, later, as a way to store some of your most treasured shoes, and finally, to tuck away keepsakes you’d like to pass down one day.
You can also purchase the storage boxes separately, and tuck these away in your closet… though they’re so beautiful that you probably won’t want to. I’ve also seen them look fabulous stacked in a column if you don’t want to commit to a stand.
Let me know if you have any other questions in the comments.
Thank you to Sagitine for providing the box stands for review. All thoughts are my own.
