It’s not too early to get a head start on my 2022 A/W wardrobe is it..? Ever the planner, the second I spotted that the Sezane 2021 Fall Collection was on the way, I started mapping out pieces that I thought would be a nice complement to my current wardrobe. Being at the tail end of winter here in Sydney was a boon to this, guiding me through what I felt was missing from my closet.
I purchased a handful of items, and thought I’d share a review on what I got. Talking through sizing and fit, quality, details and whether I’ll be adding it to my wardrobe, or sending it back. If you’ve had your eye on any of these items, I hope this post will serve as a useful guide for you.
As a general guide, I am typically a size S or AU8 and generally take a size US4 in Sezane clothing. I’m 172cm tall, and have a longer torso; quite often I’ll opt for a petite inseam where available.
Sezane Izaac Coat

I’ve been curious about Sezane coats for years. And when I spotted the Izaac Coat, I thought it would be an interesting addition to my closet. Not just because I have nothing like it, but because the coloured thread running through would add some extra vibrancy to what I’m wearing.
Size-wise, it fits true to size for a relaxed fit. It’s fully lined, in a viscose mix which has a silky feel to it. I love the subtlety of the lining; there’s a slight polka dot emboss, which is only visible when the light shines on the fabric.
The exterior is a mix of polyester, wool and other fibres. It has a bit of a traditional wool textured feel to it – interesting, and not too rough. Personally, I adore the colour. A deep navy, off-white and red check, with threads of mustard yellow, emerald green, and magenta running through. Also has functional pockets on the front.
Overall, I love this coat, though will say I do think it’s a little more on the expensive end of the price spectrum at $340 USD. Definitely one if you’re after a statement piece for the A/W season.
Sezane James Knit

You may recall that I’ve purchased the James knit previously. Last time in the classic ecru and navy stripe; ultimately I sent it back as I was holding out hope it would return in the khaki. And I’m so glad I waited. I’ve been loving the addition of earthy tones to my closet, and this has been the perfect complement.
It’s a cable knit sweater, the cabled design adding a nice touch of dimension. The detail which got me though? The matte tortoise-effect buttons on the shoulder. They have a gold accent underneath, adding a glint of shine. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again; Sezane always have the best details.
Again this knit runs true to size for a relaxed fit. If you prefer something slouchier, you might like to go up a size. Fabric is 100% merino wool; thick, cosy and warm. It’s a bit like wearing a hug. I do find that worn without any layers underneath, I occasionally feel the tickle of an itch. If you have particularly sensitive skin, this might be one to avoid.
Sezane Lucas Jumper

The second knit that I purchased was the Lucas Jumper. This immediately caught my eye, with those matte effect buttons again being the major selling point. It’s a henley style knit, so you have some options with styling depending on how many buttons are done up/loose.
From the model photos, it looked like this was more of a tailored fit, so I decided to size up to a medium. Glad I did as that gave me the look I was after; relaxed, cosy vibes. If you’re petite, I’d recommend sticking with your usual size as it’s quite boxy through the body.
Unfortunately this was an item I was a little disappointed by. I broke my rule of avoiding knits with polyamide (in my experience they just don’t wash well); this is a mix of merino, cotton and polyamide. I figured the former two fibres would probably play a huge role in how this washed, if you’re curious about my logic here. I can be a bit of a fabric snob, and the hand feel just didn’t do it for me. It has a bit of that traditional feel associated with polyester knits. I set the bar pretty high as I have quite a healthy knitwear stash, so while I loved the cut, I decided to send this one back.
Sezane Noan Mariniere

You can’t go wrong with a classic Breton striped top. Sezane’s Noan Mariniere had been on my wishlist for some months now, so I decided to finally take the plunge and added it to my order. I don’t know why I waited so long. This is a brilliant basic that’s not so basic. It’s the buttons for me. Those navy and gold enamelled buttons which run down the sides and are fully functional.
It’s also worth noting that this is a great option if you’re expecting or nursing. You can undo the buttons as your bump grows, or discrediting nurse your baby while still wearing something that feels very chic.
The top is 100% cotton, and is a medium weight with a soft touch to it. Also love the wide open boat neckline. Sizing wise this again fits true to size for a loose fit. I’d contemplated sizing up as I love relaxed silhouettes right now, but it occurred to me that the neckline would be a little too wide if I did. This one gets a 10 out of 10 from me.
Sezane Lucio Silk Tank

There aren’t many prints in my closet. I tend to make exceptions for stripes, spots, the odd floral, and leopard print. Ones that’ll never go out of style. Prints have a knack of making basics feel more interesting, and the Sezane Lucio Tank is case in point. The deep leopard print feels fun, but still rooted in neutral hues; something that felt very approachable for me.
My experience with Sezane silk pieces has been really positive. It’s a beautiful washed silk; not too thick, with a lovely hand feel. If you put this tank into the light, you’ll note that it is ever so slightly sheer, but the busy print conceals the lines of any undergarments.
I purchased this in a size S, and again, it fits true to size for a loose fit. Love how this fun print jazzes up a tailored pair of trousers.
Sezane Alison Leather Mini Skirt

The final purchase I made from the Sezane 2021 Pre-Fall collection was the Alison leather mini skirt. This was again one of those items I’d been eying up for a while. Despite winter being almost at an end, I figured it was a classic silhouette that I couldn’t go wrong with.
First note on sizing. I based my purchase on their sizing recommendation; if in between sizes, go with the smaller of the two. So I went with the US2, as I find I’m often a US2 in their bottoms (proportionately I have a smaller waist). But, if I were to have my time over I’d get the US4; the US2 just felt a little too small.
One thing I couldn’t get over was the quality. It really exceeded my expectations. Thick, soft leather with a butter feel; leather coated buttons; fully lined interior. From other brands, you’d probably expect to pay more than the ticket price of this piece. That alone makes it such a good buy.
You might be able to see in the images, it is quite short. I don’t mind a mini, but this just felt a little too short for me. I’m not sure if my heigh played into this at all, but I do think it’s a style better suited for petites.
I can’t speak as to whether the leather would give over time. I’m sure it would, but ultimately didn’t want to take the risk. Especially given the length felt a little too short for me! Returned, but if you’re petite, this is beautiful, and great value for money too.
