Some recent OOTDs

Happy Monday! I thought we’d kick off the week with a very quick round up of some recent outfits and looks that I’ve shared over on my Instagram.

The first outfit to share is one I wore a couple weeks’ ago. I awoke, and seeing the weather was reasonably mild, eagerly pulled out one of my knits. Definitely a little presumptuous of me. I think I lasted all of five minutes before I took it back a layer to a simple white tank. That said, I still loved this outfit. A slouchier trouser – still with that cropped hem length – is a piece I feel really inspired by, and this is exactly how I envision myself wearing them once it (truly) cools down. Bare ankles, and a streamlined shoe. Hair pulled back to create balance.

Another example of me getting excited about the prospect of layers. Soon. I don’t really fare well in the cold (hello… chilblains!), but layered up outfits have always felt more interesting to me. I touched on the concept of quiet luxury in my low buy update for January. Inspired mostly by the purchase of this sweater from The Row. What I’ve continued to reflect on since making those comments, is how detached we become from the purchasing process when we shop online. There’s no tactile element until the item arrives at your doorstep. And then, are you tethered (emotionally, mentally) to this purchase already? Committed to adding it to your closet despite any hang ups you might have about the piece? That feels a little bit like me, at least with this designer splurge. Though what I’ve come to learn is that The Row’s knitwear can be hit or miss, and our perception and expectations also play a huge role. At any rate, the actual cut is exquisite. To a “tee” what I was after, and it works well half tucked into jeans as styled above. Another outfit I’ll be banking for autumn and winter.

If you’re subscribed to my YouTube channel, then you may recall me remarking on the length of this alpaca knit. Surprised, really. I’d expected it to be shorter (much like the current version available which I’ve linked); easier to tuck, an easy pairing with denim worn as a vest. What I loved about this outfit combination was the mix of textures. Which… I’m not sure are too easily visible in these iPhone snaps. Essentially you have the woolen alpaca knit, the ridged texture of the denim, the woven fabric on the shoes, and the croc embossed leather of the bag. A simple outfit, but elevated with these minor details.

At this point I’d say most of us are pretty settled into our working from home routine. But, I’ve been consciously thinking a bit about that return to the office, and what that looks like. Suiting, always being a core part of the corporate work wardrobe. Those same Facade Pattern trousers I wore earlier are pictured here, this time as part of a mismatched suit. The colours are so spot on though, that you’d be forgiven for thinking they were a matching duo. For me, being able to customise and refine the fit of my outfit by opting for separates as opposed to an intentional suit is freeing. Whether it’s to mix two pieces so close on the colour spectrum, or opting for more of a contrast. It works well, and can be a way to lean into your personal proportions (and style preferences).

Which brings us to today’s outfit. Tonal – as I’m usually want to wear – but pairing easy breezy basics. The almost gauzey semi-sheer blouse from Marle which was a favourite purchase of mine last year. The tapered trousers with a slim fit, which sit high up on the waist. And the strappy sandals, which anchor the look without stealing the show.
