The novelty of being able to go back and review my most worn items – based on real hard data – has yet to wear off. Even so many years on. Often it serves as a bearing of whether a purchase was a wise one. Especially for the pieces I consider to be something of a splurge.
But perhaps the thing I really get out of it, is a strong sense of my personal style. As each season, and year on year, these much-loved items have rarely seen a seismic shift. I can expect that during the warmer months, some of of slide (typically from YSL) will have been my most worn. A reminder that the humble t-shirt is still the most versatile and wearable item I own. And that I’ll always have favoured some sort of crossbody bag.
So, here’s a look at my spring most worn items – a little delayed, but hopefully will serve as useful for planning purposes nonetheless.
Spring Most Worn Items
MOST WORN TOP | Venroy cocoa linen tank
It’s rare that I’ll be surprised by the items that make it into my most worn. This, is one of those exceptions. Made more unusual by the fact that it’s part of a matching set, and spoiler alert, the skirt isn’t on this list. I really love this set. The cocoa brown hue has a red undertone to it which is reflected in the base of my hair colour. One of the reasons I think I like to reach for it. I do tend to wear the top on its own with trousers or denim shorts. From a wear and tear perspective, I have noticed that the linen knit has started to show signs of wear; just looking a little bit “aged”.
MOST WORN KNIT | Jenni Kayne grey cotton cashmere crew (15% off with JamieLee15)
At this point, I think that Jenni Kayne has trumped my old Everlane faves as the ones I reach for the most. They’re luxurious feeling, and have that eased out silhouette I’ve been drawn to for a good couple of years now. This one though, is my favourite. It’s a cotton and recycled cashmere blend. Has worn really well, with very minimal signs of wear. A great option if you want a wool blend knit that has heft to it, but won’t feel itchy on your skin. One I’m very excited to have on regular rotation again when the weather cools down.
MOST WORN SKIRT | IRO black gathered mini skirt (10% off with MJFF10)
It’s funny to think that at one point in my life, I was almost exclusively a “dress” girl. As in, all I wore were dresses. The convenience of a “one and done” outfit seemed to appeal. Each one was a statement, so I’d cycle through this cacophony of print and texture. A black mini skirt feels like the antithesis of that; a blank canvas for which to build an outfit. And I do love this one. It’s a stretch cotton jersey with this plush hand feel, and has an intentionally asymmetrical hemline. The ruching across the waistband is what makes me feel comfortable in this, and it really does go with everything. My only complaint? Being a black cotton jersey, it always seems to be covered in lint so needs a good once over before heading out the door.
MOST WORN SHORTS | Everlane faded black a-line denim shorts
The best denim shorts. Hands down. Not even a competition at this point. I own this style in four washes, each of which I wear on regular rotation. Made from 100% cotton these don’t have stretch but I find the denim relaxes a little with wear. Sizing runs large so go down one. They cinch in at the waist and float over the hips, the wide leg opening being the defining feature which makes them such a star in my books.
MOST WORN TROUSERS | Facade Pattern black linen trousers (10% off with mademoiselle2023)
Facade Pattern is up there as one of my favourite brands for 2022. I’ve got a few pairs of trousers from the brand at this point (along with outerwear), and each piece is beautifully cut and served to fill a void in my closet. I like that the linen on these is thick but has this smooth, worn in feel to the touch. They’re not sheer, and they’re easy to care for. Just throw them in the washing machine. Being a black trouser they’re highly functional and were a go-to for casual day wear and more elevated evening wear, with a few simple style swaps.
MOST WORN JEANS | Toteme faded black cropped jeans
I made a remark to a friend about how sometimes our favourite items in our closet aren’t necessarily our most worn. The latter being associated with function and utility. But this is one of those items where those two concepts collide. While I know the fashion world has moved on to longer lengths, I still have a soft spot for cropped jeans (and trousers). They’re one of those items that are easy to style, and seem to work back with everything in my closet. The quality of these Toteme jeans is exceptional, far exceeding my expectations at this point and have made these a worthy splurge. Though if you’re lucky like I was, you might be able to snag a pair of sale. Fits true to size and despite being a rigid denim I find them very comfortable. Probably something to do with the straight, relaxed fit.
MOST WORN DRESS | SIR the Label Isobel v-neck dress
A sale purchase that I was really tickled by, and made a point of wearing as much as possible. Functionality is a big part of this item; it layers well over and under items, and can also be worn back to front. Pretty sure that it’s still available, and on sale too. My only gripe is that it’s dry-clean only, and I’ve not felt emboldened to risk popping it in the washing machine.
MOST WORN JACKET | The Frankie Shop black oversized blazer
Still not over the oversized blazer, reinforced by the sheer fact that I wore my Frankie Shop blazer more in spring than in winter. A real workhorse in my closet which seems to suit all manner of occasions; from casual to more formal. Quality-wise, it’s held up incredibly well. Enough so to warrant me opting to purchase the same blazer in another colour (on sale, mind you!). Definitely an item I’d class as more of a trans-seasonal or winter piece in my closet as the synthetic lining can feel suffocating on an especially balmy day. Recommend sizing down one if you can as it runs incredibly large.
MOST WORN BAG | Celine trio in grey
My most worn bags almost always tend to be some sort of crossbody. The Celine trio has been one of those bags I’ve flip-flopped on. I’ve owned a handful in different colours, my previous “lavender” blue one being so precious and high maintenance that I seldom wore it and later passed it off as being too expensive from a value for money perspective. The grey one I managed to snag pre-loved for a steal, so I’ve not felt a need to baby it. From that perspective, it’s allowed me to get more joy out of using it, and be carefree with it. The glazing has started to crack slightly, there are scratches and marks on the front pouch (which were there when I bought it). But I’m not bothered by those; it’s the colour, and the functionality that make this a high rotation piece in my closet. A good alternative (and close contender) is the Saben Tilly’s Big Sis (15% off with JAMIELOVESSABEN).
MOST WORN SHOES | Jenni Kayne post toe sandals (15% off with JamieLee15)
Another unexpected find when reviewing the data. I for sure thought my YSL slides would take the cake for another consecutive spring/summer season. These pipped them at the post, which I think is down to the fact that the leather is softer, and there’s less leather to rub up against the foot. I do occasionally find I’ll get the odd blister with these if it’s a day when I’m wearing my shoes really hard. But overall, they’re very comfortable, and only took a couple of wears to get that lived in feeling. I stuck with my usual size EU40.
