Spring Wardrobe Planning (Part II)

As a follow up to last week’s post, today I wanted to focus more on things that I felt my closet was missing. I tend to take note when I spy something I feel would be a great fit with my existing wardrobe. Though it’s not always quite as organic as that. Other times, it’s the result of browsing (while bored, when else?). A particular piece will catch my eye and all of a sudden I find myself planning out outfits like it was already part of my wardrobe.

Rather than share my “wishlist” in its entirety, I thought I’d hone in on five key pieces. The ones which I feel will have the largest impact on how I approach my wardrobe as a whole, during the months to come.

A cotton poplin midi skirt | Ideally in an earthy tone. A stone colour perhaps, or alternatively I’ve been eyeing up this one from S’ Max Mara which is a deep forest green. Crisp cotton poplin goes hand in hand with the warmer months, and I’ve especially been enjoying playing with different length skirts in my wardrobe. Styling wise, it’s an elegant piece. So I’m planning to pair back the silhouette with slouchy sleeveless vests and oversized tees.

A linen oversized shirt | I already have a couple of linen shirts in my closet. But nothing quite ticks the boxes when it comes to the fit I’m after. I want it to be quite long. Long enough to be worn as a tunic, perhaps, and roomy through the body. I’ve seen a few I like. Uniqlo (the mens section is always a good place to look), and COS are my top contenders.

A high-waisted mini skirt | On the other end of the spectrum, is a high-waisted mini. Not too short, but just short enough. I saw one of my favourites on IG for inspiration – Sylvie Mus – wear an oat-toned vintage linen mini recently, and it ignited this desire to add something similar to my own closet. Worn with oversized shirts, stripes, silky camisoles. Given it’s pretty warm in Sydney nine months of the year, I don’t think I can really go wrong. I’m still looking around for something in a soft beige hue, but have settled on this crisp white cotton twill option from Arket. I love that it’s quite fitted. Darted at the waist to create nice clean lines with a zipper at the back. But not too immodest. Already in my cart!

Barely there mules | Continuing to lean into many of those (good) 90s minimalist trends, I’m keen to add a pair of barely there mules to my spring wardrobe too. They need to be walkable, so a low block heel is a must. Strappy. Simple. I’ve been really drawn to this pair from Mara & Mine, as I especially love the contrast white stitching.

A “fancy” top | The final item currently on my spring wishlist, is a “fancy” top. Something in a natural fibre, which will work well through to summer, and dress up a simple denim skirt or pair of shorts. I haven’t really settled on anything yet, but this one from Mango did catch my eye. In particular the ruching at the centre – love that you can turn it into more of a crop, or just expose a tiny sliver of flesh depending on your mood.
