Spring/Summer ’16 Wardrobe Recap

It’s been a while since the last time I recapped my seasonal wardrobe, and I have to admit, I’m finding it hard to believe that Summer is close to over what with temps in the late 20s to early 30s.

Building up the basics for the most part took a back seat as I’ve been trying to invest in a little more colour and texture, while playing with some new proportions and styles. As much as I love the focus that having a capsule wardrobe has given me, sometimes a girl just wants to have fun!

New wardrobe staples / With the foundation of my wardrobe firmly set in stone now, I’ve definitely been placing the focus a lot on finding some versatile and hard wearing everyday shoes. I walk approximately 40 minutes to and from work each day, so comfort is absolutely essential. I’ve added three new pairs of shoes into regular rotation; some modern leather loafers from Everlane, a pair of ankle strap low heeled pumps from Valentino, and a pair of low heeled pointed toe pumps from Max Mara. These new additions have been quick to find their way into my regular shoe rotation, and manage to get me to work and home with my feet in one piece!

New favourites / I’ve been banging on a lot lately about adding in some additional colour to my wardrobe and I started with a pair of blush pink trousers from Topshop which tie at the waist (similar here). It’s been a little too hot to wear these on the regular but they have definitely become a new favourite of mine and I’m really looking forward to including them in my Autumn capsule wardrobe. On the more neutral end of the spectrum, I’ve been really loving the long oversized navy cardigan I picked up from C/meo Collective last year. It’s so easy to throw on, goes with pretty much everything, and is basically a more affordable version of the Acne Studios Raya coatigan.

A special addition / I’ve picked up a couple of stunning dresses from Dion Lee, both of which I consider to be quite special. The first, I wore for my engagement party late last year, and the second, is what I’ll be wearing to Luke’s brother’s wedding in just a few months’ time. It’s pretty safe to say that the Aussie-based designer has quick become a favourite of mine, and a go-to (like Lover), when I’m shopping for a special occasion.

What I’ve worn the most / For the most part, the last six months have been pretty hot, by my standards at least, so I’ve found myself living in the same easy pieces; denim shorts from Karen Walker, low heeled sandals from Opening Ceremony, a lightweight tank from Everlane and an a-line skirt from Josh Goot. If you’re familiar with my YouTube Channel then you’ve probably seen all of these pieces pop up in my regular lookbook and capsule wardrobe videos.

What I’ve worn the least / This is always a hard one for me, but I think if I had to narrow it down, it would be between two pairs of shorts – a black and white geometric pair from Manning Cartell and a bright coral pair from Karen Walker. While I love both in their own right, I’ve been reaching for the denim every weekend without fail; and let’s be real, anything shiny and new is always going to be first off the bench when it comes to everyday dressing.

Most disappointing purchase / By now, it’s probably pretty clear that shoes are a definitely weak spot for me. It’s fair to say that I spend a little more than average (okay, sometimes that’s an understatement…) for a pair of new ‘kicks’, but usually I’ll spend at least a good four weeks – or more – mulling it over. On impulse, I ended up picking up a pair of canvas espadrilles from Stella McCartney, which in theory are perfect for the summertime, but in practice, just never made it out of my wardrobe. So, rather than let them languish in the back of my closet, I’ve decided to part with them (and if you’re an EU40, you can snap them up for a great price here).

While I’ll undeniably pick the classics over a trend piece any day, I’m really excited to see the direction that my wardrobe goes in as we move into Autumn. Let’s just say I think my Autumn/Winter ’16 recap is going to be p-r-e-t-t-y interesting…

I really love these “most/least worn” posts and videos. And I actually like that you repeatedly feature the some of the same items season after season, because it helps to know what clothing and brands stand the test of time. Plus I like seeing how you pair them with newer acquisitions. Keep it up! 🙂
