I’ve been feeling so fickle about my outfits lately. One day, I love what I’m wearing. The next day, I spend near an hour (during nap time, of course!) trying to piece together an outfit I might be only remotely happy with. It’s been a rollercoaster of highs and lows as I’ve “tried” to figure out my new style as a mum; a mix of practicality, my favourite wardrobe basics, and the odd whimsical silhouette.
I’m not as confident in my new shape (trust me, it’s changed), and after years of having honed in on what worked for me, I feel a little like I’m having to start from scratch. Which is tricky when you’re working full time, caring for a 9.5 month old, and trying to start a second business. Needless to say, spending some quality time playing around with my closet has taken a back seat.
Wearing CO/RCA oversized tank (or similar here); H&M shorts (under $15!!); Jane Debster slides; Linjer bag & watch; Muru Jewellery necklace; PORTRAIT sunglasses
A couple of little things I’ve noticed? The types of silhouettes I like to wear has changed. Just slightly. A mid to high-rise is a must, ideally ending at my belly button or just above. Skirts are great but shorts are better. I especially like if they cover up a decent portion of my upper thigh – nothing too short or “obscene”. And the leg opening should be wide too. You want them to be comfortable. The best – and most affordable – pair I’ve found are the ones I’m wearing above from H&M. At just shy of $15, they’re an absolute steal. Love that they’re 100% cotton, and they aren’t restrictive in any way.
Also, my taste in shoes seems to have changed. Unless I’m going out, the only type of shoe you’re going to find me in is a great pair of flats. As much as I love a low block heel, they feel a little too “fussy” for me right now. More and more I’m finding that I tend to favour slides, as they’re so easy to slip on and off. Plus, they’re perfect almost year round in Sydney.
Finally, bags. I keep one larger bag tucked underneath the pram at all times with spare nappies, a change mat, wet wipes and a handful of other baby necessities. Then on my person, I carry a smaller crossbody which fits all my personal essentials. This is more convenient and easier to manage when also carrying around a little one in your arms.
If the past nine months have taught me anything? It’s that having so much time to pour into honing in on my personal style over the years was a real luxury. With Luke off for a couple of weeks over the break, I’m hoping that’ll give me an opportunity to comb through my closet and put a few things which aren’t working for me right now on hiatus. I’ll keep you posted.
This outfit idea for post-pregnancy sounds really chic & fashionable!
