As I type this, the sun in streaming in through my window. A total tease of course; it’s currently a crisp 15 deg C, and summer is still a few months off. But for a bit of fun (and for my northern hemisphere friends), I wanted to share a Summer Wardrobe 10X10 that I recently pulled together for my YT Channel.
If you aren’t familiar with the 10X10 challenge, you essentially select 10 items and wear those 10 items only over the next 10 days. I’ve broken it down further here when I participated in the challenge for the first time a little over a year ago.
This Summer Wardrobe 10X10 was built with mostly casual wear in mind. I guess a little at the intersection of work and summer vacation.
The Ten Items
01 | ASTR the Label white peplum top
Elevating your outfit is all down to the details. This recent addition to my wardrobe definitely feels a bit more playful and fun than anything else I have. It’s a lovely textured cotton with a subtle self-stripe detail, and I just adore the ties on the shoulder and the peplum hem at the waist. Being white, it’s still a neutral, but those small design elements make it feel so special.
02 | Madewell white cotton courier shirt (also here)
This short-sleeved, boxy, oversized cotton shirt from Madewell has been such a staple since I bought it three years ago. The fabric is a decent weight, it’s not see-through, but the loose design means it doesn’t stick to my skin. It’s a basic that goes with everything – I promise.
03 | Re/Done white tee
I’ve amassed a few basic tees over the years, but I have to say I think this one from Re/Done is by far my favourite. This style has a slightly shrunken fit, and it’s more of a creamy off-white hue. I love it so much that I have it in the black, too.
04 | Something Navy white midi dress
Perhaps I’m starting to show my age, but I’ve found myself gravitating more towards midi dresses when it’s hot out. I love that it’s a full outfit in one, but it also doesn’t feel too revealing. This midi from Something Navy is great as it can be worn casually or dressed up, and you can layer tees and long sleeved tops underneath, or wear it open like a vest.
05 | Faithfull the Brand red floral skirt (also here or affordable here)
For a super fun element, I wanted to include this wrap skirt from Faithfull. It’s a bold, punchy red, with a ditsy floral all over. This is the kind of thing I would pack on vacation. The waistband is adjustable, and I feel a million dollars when wearing it.
06 | Something Navy polka dot midi skirt
As a slightly more ‘basic’ skirt option, I’ve also included a polka dot midi skirt from Something Navy. I like that there are some fun design elements that keep this from feeling too simple. The polka dot print is always a winner in my books, the split makes the modest length seem a bit sexier, and the button up detail at the front adds a contrast to the muted hue of the skirt.
07 | Everlane black a-line skirt
I also wanted to include a basic black skirt. I’ve been enjoying wearing this one from Everlane as it’s a heavier weight cotton, and in the black can easily be remixed for autumn/winter. It’s a-line, but not too a-line, if you know what I mean.
08 | Topshop denim shorts
A quintessential summer staple for me are a good pair of denim shorts. I lived in these ones last summer. They have a nice rise, aren’t cut too short, and aren’t tight around the thigh. Ticks all the boxes, and it helps that they go with absolutely everything.
09 | Everlane strappy sandals
For my first shoe choice, I decided to go with a low block heeled sandal. Being a nude, neutral hue, these go with absolutely everything, and I love that the heel contrasts against the lizard-embossed leather. They’re pretty comfortable too!
10 | Jane Debster tan slides
After talking about buying the YSL nu pieds slides for months, I never ended up pulling the trigger. So these tan slides from Jane Debster have remained my go-to when I want to slip on some sandals and still look cute. They’re super comfortable and the warm caramel hue goes with absolutely everything.
