It’s almost hard to believe that Summer has come and gone already – and you almost wouldn’t know it given how warm the last two weeks have been. In an effort to keep up with the tradition of my last wardrobe update, I’ve compiled a list of my wardrobe splurges and new additions which have made their way into my closet over the last few months.
I’ve been a little – or a lot – quiet on the shopping front as of late, particularly since starting the 5PFW Challenge in February, so I’ve been rediscovering a few forgotten heroes and relying on wardrobe staples to see me through.
New wardrobe staples: Everlane lightweight tanks in grey marle and charcoal, one of Acne’s linen t-shirts (definitely splurge-worthy). These have all been in high rotation on weekends and occasionally at work, during the hot summer months. No regrets here.
New favourites: I’ve really rediscovered my Opening Ceremony mules this summer. They’re so easy to just slip on and seem to really ‘lift’ an outfit (plus it helps that they go with everything). I’ve also been enjoying getting a lot of wear out of my Dion Lee tweed skirt, the a-line style is super flattering and it does double duty, working for both weekends and at the office.
A special addition: I got pretty lucky during the sales, and managed to come away with a gorgeous jacquard skirt from Josh Goot for approximately 65% off the original RRP. It goes without saying that I quickly snapped it up, which I was more than thrilled about considering I spent a good five months stalking it online and in-store. I love the contrast in the pattern, which makes it the perfect year-round piece. It’s definitely a little more special than some of my other skirts but I’ve been giving it a good workout the last couple of months. I also managed to nab a new pair of white velvet panda flats from Charlotte Olympia. They are by far the quirkiest and most unusual shoes I own but they are so eye-catching and are the perfect touch to any minimal outfit.
What I’ve worn the most: Everlane has truly been my savior this summer. I’ve been relying on their sleeveless silk and lightweight rayon tanks for those hot days, as they’re just so easy to throw on with a skirt and a pair of flats or heels (depending on whether I’m heading to the beach/shops or to the office). I’ve also been pulling out my Equipment sleeveless blouses a lot and my beige Karen Walker skirt. Shoe-wise, I’ve been thrashing my Opening Ceremony sandals or my Porselli ballet flats most; after a few sandal-related mishaps, I decided to opt for my most trustworthy shoes, which I imagine will be welcoming the break from my feet come Fall. My Charlotte Olympia kitty flats also got a bit of love, after I ‘rediscovered’ them at the bottom of my wardrobe.
What I’ve worn the least: I truly am a creature of habit, which meant that some of my favourite Summer pieces went unworn as I opted for the same pair of shorts I’d worn just the day before or the same dress I’d been throwing on every second day. This has meant a few pieces from my summer wardrobe – like the Liam biscayne shorts and my printed Manning Cartell shorts – have fallen to the wayside. It is Sydney however, so I think I’ve probably got a solid month of warm weather to get some wear out of those pieces before it finally cools down for sweater weather.
Most disappointing purchase: Truthfully, I didn’t really have any disappointing purchases over summer, which I partly put down to the fact that it was a summer of shopping less, and partly to the fact that I was able to return anything which didn’t quite work out. Of the items I returned, the most disappointing was Bec & Bridge’s ‘entrained’ dress. Yes, it’s bodycon and yes, it has cut outs; but as gorgeous as it was, my usual size was at least one, if not two, sizes too small for me.

Yayy!! I’ve been quiet-ish on the shopping front too, except for shopping NAP’s sale, my favorite consignment store’s sale and I just bought some Summer pants from The Outnets clearance sale (which aren’t totally me, but I can totally see myself wearing them in Greece next month!)

Love the photo. I adore those cat shoes.

Such a good shopping/wearing wrap-up! I try do a wrap-up of what I bought each month, perhaps I should expand it more to focus on what I wore as well!
You’ve definitely given me food for thought! 🙂
I really have to try Everlane too, I’ve heard lots of good things about them, but the hassles or trying to use a parcel forwarding service to ship them to Australia has always put me off.
