It may come as a surprise, but of everything that we wear, sneakers have one of the biggest environmental footprints. The manufacturing process is energy-intensive, and many of the components are made from virgin plastic, which never break down. Not only that, but we are wearing out our sneakers at a faster rate than many of the other items we have stashed in our wardrobes, with the number of sneakers that have ended up in landfill somewhere in the billions.
