Winter has been off to a pretty mild start, and I’m not complaining as it means I get to stretch out those “transitional” season outfits for a little while longer. My mornings have been pretty rushed. A juggle between getting our two-year-old ready for daycare (or just entertained), and feeding our baby girl. My outfits have been rooted in ease, and seeking comfort in styles which appear elevated. This outfit was case in point. Trousers in a cotton sateen with a soft shine (workwear-worthy), worn with the beautiful cashmere Darcie Cardigan from Marle (pictured here in speckled ink – PR).

Style rules might dictate that navy and black worn together are a faux pas, but personally, I love the combination. My colouring is quite “high contrast” during the colder months, and wearing black too close to my face often accentuates that. Switching out a black knit for a navy one feels less harsh; a good go-to option if you have a fair complexion and want to include deeper colours in your wardrobe without getting washed out.
Marle Darcie Cardigan
Clearly the star of the show here is the Marle Darcie Cardigan with contrasting shell buttons. For someone who doesn’t tend to opt for stereotypical “statement” pieces, this is one way to approach adding a touch of whimsy to an outfit. I was especially drawn to the colour – speckled ink – which is a deep, almost black, navy.
I’m wearing the cardigan here in a size NZ8, and it fits true to size for a relaxed fit. The cashmere isn’t too thick, meaning it’s soft and malleable enough to easily tuck into trousers like I’ve done above. There are side slits which mean you can do a cute little French tuck, but it also looks great worn loose over dresses or slip skirts.
