That one outfit combination you can always rely on…

Classic Parisian Chic Style outfit with breton stripe top and black trousers
Acne Studios mini musubi bag in camel

Let’s call this my “get-ready-in-less-than-two-minutes” outfit. Reliable, practical, and always chic, you can count on the French to have a style uniform that not only looks effortless, but actually is

Wearing Uniqlo striped top (size S or alternative here); AERE trousers (size AU8); About Arianne ballet flats (size EU40); Acne Studios mini musubi bag (10% off with JAMIEFF10); The Row black knit (size S)

If there’s one thing that has been a steady constant in my outfits, it’s been the reliance on stripes as a “neutral”. During my my experimental days, I’d pair them with other patterns like florals or geometric prints using this exact verbiage as grounding for why it worked. Looking back, quite a number of these pairing feel wrong. But when set against a backdrop of easy basics in neutral tones, there’s not a thing the breton stripe top won’t go with.

The more “recent” update to this look is the sweater knotted around the shoulders. Which admittedly is the least effortless part of this outfit. For one, you need to get the sweater just right. The sleeves need to be long and not too thick and bulky so that it doesn’t overwhelm at the neckline. A simple loop through knot sometimes doesn’t cut it either. I’m always on high alert when rocking this sort of style. Last thing you want to do is lose one of your most-reached-for knitwear staples.

Let’s end this quick outfit post with a note on bags. Accessories can be game changing. An outfit maker or an outfit breaker. And on my YouTube channel I shared a new video talking through four essential bags I think everyone should own. This is universal, and non-specific (as we all have our own sense of style – what I love, you might not!). Of course my musubi bag does make an appearance, with a mini update on wear and tear for those curious.

Enjoy the week ahead! X
