Off the back of the Everlane Review that I shared on my channel earlier today, I thought I’d do a round up of my top picks from Everlane. As you know, I’m a pretty big fan of the brand, and over the years have amassed a pretty large number of Everlane items in my wardrobe – safe to say that there’s seldom a day when I’m not reaching for one of their classic staples as a key component of my outfit. While I’d agree that there’s not enough scrutiny around their ‘radical transparency’, I’m yet to find another brand which aligns as closely with my personal values, while launching wardrobe staples which are often a modern twist on a classic. Clearly, I can’t get enough.
Given that here in Australia, we’re about to face a 10% increase on all international purchases (thanks to a change in GST legislation), I figured I’d help to narrow the options for those of you planning to make a sneaky purchase or two before 17 June (Everlane’s cut off date to avoid GST on your order).
TOPS
Japanese GoWeave Cami
The weather has been positively miserable in Sydney as of late, and combined with working to complete some ‘minor’ renovations on the house, I haven’t had a chance to share this new addition to my wardrobe with you all yet. After receiving the GoWeave Tank Wrap dress (more on that below), I felt a renewed interest in the GoWeave offering, so I was pretty excited to try this top out. This has a much more snug fit that any of the other items I’ve tried from the brand; I got a size US2 and I wouldn’t go any smaller – there’s just enough room around the bust for me. Being made of the GoWeave fabric, this is thick heavier weight cami, and its wrinkle resistant (but remember.. not wrinkle proof). And it feels expensive. I love a good spaghetti strap which was one of the major draw cards for me, and the fit is loose through the body. Because of the weight of the material, this is one that’s best worn loose.
Linen Oversized Collarless Shirt
Natural fibres are by far my favourite, regardless of season, and this linen collarless shirt has been a huge winner in my wardrobe. Naturally, it’s an oversized fit, so size down if you want something that isn’t so loose on the body. I opted for a size 2 but could have easily also gone for the size 0. It’s boxy through the body, and the dropped shoulders give this shirt a real relaxed vibe. I like to roll the sleeves up when it’s warm to make this top look even more relaxed. It washes well too – softens up beautifully with wear.
Relaxed Silk Shirt
I first stumbled across Everlane when looking for an affordable alternative to my favourite Equipment silk shirts. I loved their original iteration of this style, but I love the relaxed silk shirt even more. I have this in the burgundy and white stripe, and it’s a beautiful washed silk, which has a soft sueded feel. The fabric is lightweight yet feels somewhat substantial, which gives a nice drape to the blouse. I have hand washed a lot of my silk from Everlane in the past, but from what I’ve been told, it’s not worth it to risk it with the stripe version as the dye will run. A great wardrobe staple if you don’t mind the regular maintenance, alternatively I’ve had plenty of success hand washing the non-patterened silk blouses from the brand previously.
Silk Shell
This is undoubtedly one of the unsung heroes of my wardrobe, and what I think is one of Everlane’s more underrated styles. Sydney summer’s can be intense, and my morning commute doesn’t help matters – I’m usually a frizzy mess by the time I reach the office each morning. So, I place a lot of emphasis on finding smart wardrobe basics that work for the office, but that are also incredibly easy to care for as I’ll launder things more frequently during the warmer months. This top ticks all the boxes; I have the striped version which is a nice ‘woven’ slightly stiff silk, which has nice structure to it. It’s a basic cut, but it looks good with everything, and the pattern adds a layer of interest. Plus, it’s machine washable. I pop this in the wash on the cold setting and haven’t had any issues, and as a result, it’s become one of the most hard-working items in my all year round wardrobe.
Air Oversized Crew Tee
I don’t often mention Everlane’s t-shirt range, as I’ve come to prefer the pima cotton from Grana for everyday, and more recently, have started to invest in some more expensive tees from Vince (which in my opinion have been worth the jump up in price). Their U-neck tees are a bit too oversized, the cotton hasn’t worn that well over time (a consideration regardless of price tag), and I find they pick up Winston’s fur quite easily. But, I’m totally on board with one of their new t-shirt releases: the oversized air crew tee. The sleeve length is slightly longer than on a typical tee, which is a design detail that I quite like, the crew neckline isn’t too narrow around the neck, and the fabric has a slight transparency to it. It’s probably worth noting that this isn’t ultra-soft, and the sizing does come up large, as usual. For reference, I’m wearing the XS above.
SWEATERS
Cashmere Crew
I’ve branched out and tried a few of their other sweaters, but I always, always, always come back to the cashmere crew. It’s a classic for good reason, and probably the item that really made me fall in love with Everlane. It’s fantastic value for money given the quality, and I’m a big fan of the fit. Sizing wise I’m typically an AU6-8 in most brands, and I wear the cashmere crew in a size small; it’s fitted through the arms but has a slightly loose fit through the body.
DENIM
Cheeky Straight Leg Jean
I’ve talked at length in videos and on my blog previously about how much I adore these jeans. They’re a slim fitting straight leg, and fit a little narrower than your classic boyfriend jean. I opted for the ‘bone’ wash and it’s been such a great addition to my wardrobe; it’s lightened up my winter colour palette, but will be equally as versatile come spring-time. I’ve read mixed reviews on the sizing for these, so it’s worth noting that each wash of denim has its own unique qualities in terms of how it wears. The denim is a cotton/elastane mix, which has its pros and cons. The elastane makes them incredibly comfortable, but you need to be wary that the fabric will relax upon wear. I find that the fabric stretches out most across the hip and the back of the thigh, though probably not enough for me to warrant going down a size to a 24 (for reference, I have these in my usual denim size, which is a 25). Aside from that small complaint, they’re a great departure from my usual skinny jean, and I love the cropped length which falls just above my ankle. I’ve done a full review on the cheeky straight leg jean HERE in case you’re seriously thinking of pulling the trigger on these, but want a little more detail.
Denim Skirt
I was lucky enough to be sent a denim skirt from their latest launch, and while I haven’t really had much opportunity to wear it due to the recent cold front which has come through, it’s something that I already know will be a warm weather staple. I opted for the raw hem version in the mid-blue wash in my usual size, 25. This fits me well around the waist (if not a little large – though I have a 24 inch waist for reference), and is a nice length. It’s not too long and it’s not too short. The quality of the denim is great; it doesn’t have any stretch to it, but it isn’t rigid and it feels comfortable to wear. I haven’t had a chance to throw this one in the wash yet but I suspect the raw edged hem will fray slightly over time – I love a little bit of distressing with my denim so this isn’t a dealbreaker for me, but you might prefer the tailored version if it is. I’m planning on snapping this up in the washed black as soon as my size comes back in stock.
DRESSES
Japanese GoWeave Tank Wrap Dress
There was a lot of hype around the recent launch of the GoWeave wrap dress, and I have to admit, I wasn’t expecting to love this style as much as I do. Full disclosure, but again I was lucky enough to be sent one of these dresses, and I opted for the singlet style wrap dress in the mini length. I’ve been wearing this quite a bit to the office, worn over a black turtleneck (something like this) or my Enza Costa white long sleeve tee, and I feel like it would also look great paired with an oversized knit sweater worn underneath too. This comes up just above my knee, which I personally find is quite a versatile length as it makes this such an easy piece to transition from work to play. My favourite design detail is the added tie at the hip, which helps to keep the dress secure and in place against the body. The tie at the waist does have a tendency to unravel (although I haven’t had any accidents!), so I’d recommend tying this in a knot for more security. Considering I had convinced myself that I wasn’t going to love the GoWeave fabric, it’s actually one of the strong points of this style; it gives the dress a little structure at the waist when tied (I have the US2 which is a great fit – there’s a little bit of folding around the tie which creates added definition), and it’s wrinkle resistant.
PANTS
Wide Leg Crop Pant
I remember kicking myself for not picking up a pair of the wide leg crop pants when they first launched, mostly because the wait list was months long, and I was dying to try out this cropped wide leg style. These are incredibly flattering on the bum, and they’re such a great affordable alternative to the Jessie Kamm pants (which are eye-wateringly expensive), though I wouldn’t recommend them if you’re under 5’6″ – I find that this is a style best suited for those that are a little on the taller end of the spectrum. These are made of a stretch cotton and have a nice weight, and on me, they came up just above the ankles. The sizing runs large – I bought these in a size 0 and would typically wear a 25 in jeans for reference.
SHOES & ACCESSORIES
Day Market Tote
If you watched my tote bag review video, then you’ll have seen that I ranked this bag third of the three options I had, but I still think that this bag is a great option and one that I’m glad I have in my wardrobe. It’s an open style tote, so won’t be suitable if you prefer something with a zip up closure, but I like that this means I can go ham and fill it to the brim with my belongings. The interior is raw (undyed) leather, with a solid leather base – the latter of which helps to give some defining structure to the style. This is a mildly stiff leather that will give over time, but it’ll also develop light creases as you break it in, something that I think adds to the charm of the bag. I have this in the beige and it’s a lovely neutral hue for the office.
Day Heels
If I had to identify my most worn pair of shoes over the last 12 months, it would have to be my day heels; I’ve worn these at least once a week since I got them as the classic style and the soft leather makes them a dream to wear. These will mold to the shape of your foot, which may not be to everyone’s tastes, so it’s probably worth mentioning. I can promise you that these are a shoe that won’t give you blisters.
Boss Boot
My current go-to everyday shoe for winter is Everlane’s boss boot; it’s a classic style that is a fantastic alternative to the Acne Studios jensen boot (assuming you aren’t fussed by the differences in design details). These are made of a pebbled leather, which softens up with wear. Again, this is another pair of shoes that I didn’t have to break in, and they’ve really just gotten better with age. The low block heel is sturdy enough to make these comfortable even during my 45-minute walk to work, and aside from a bit of creasing across the foot which I’d expect from wear, these haven’t stretched out too much. I’ve done a full review of the boss boots HERE.
Editor Slingback Flats
Style-wise, these are probably my favourite shoe launch from Everlane at the minute. I’m a big fan of slingback shoes; I think that they’re an elegant style, and the presence dainty ankle strap just elevates the appearance of a pointed toe flat to the next level. I interpret these as an affordable take on the Paul Andrew rhea slingback flats, with a more modern slant. The vamp on these is rather low cut so if you aren’t a fan of toe cleavage, then these won’t be for you, but personally, I like the angular cut across the top of the foot. The elastic on the strap will relax after a day of wear, so make sure that these are super snug if you do decide to buy them (expect blisters the first time you wear them FYI). You can check out my full review of the slingback flats HERE.
Hi Jaime
Love your work! Could you please do a blog/youtube on how you shop online? Especially with overseas purchases – taxes, delivery charges etc. I live in NZ and Everlane doesn’t ship here. Would like to try Glossier but not sure if they ship here either. Nordstrom is another site I am interested in but I think their delivery and taxes are high. Would love your tips. Thanks

Thank you so much Elaine! I’ve definitely mentioned it in passing but absolutely that’s a great idea. In NZ I know you can use YouShop for a lot of those brands but personally I use Shipito. You can set the customs charges yourself which is amazing (they’ll pull out invoices on request) the only downside is that you have to be certain of your purchase – there are no returns. Glossier you need to do assisted purchase; this is something i know that Shipito offers (though I haven’t used that service with them). I’ll try and pull something together in the coming weeks xx
Wow! You’re super fast in your response. Thank you!
If you could please also comment on Amazon and ebay shopping experiences. Thanks, Jamie
