Frame Denim cable knit sweater (I adore this option and this is also a great alternative), J Crew denim skirt (also love this), MVN faux leather jacket (this one is cute too), Everlane chelsea boots, Celine trotteur bag (also here)
It might be spring but I’m not ready to pack away my boots and chunky knit sweater just yet, even if the thermostat topped out at 37 degrees celsius today (yep, that’s officially summer temps!). Where I can I try and make my wardrobe go the extra mile, whether it’s a work wardrobe staple that I also reach for in the weekend, or a summer dress that I can layer for winter, and the months between winter and summer tend to be no exception.
1. OPT FOR A LIGHTWEIGHT JACKET
Transitional pieces like a solid jacket – whether it’s a classic trench or a (faux) leather jacket like I’m wearing above – are a great staple to have to reach for. For the most part, the weather isn’t quite balmy enough to go without a jacket (at least not first thing in the morning!), so having a layering piece that is a little on the lighter side is always a great place to start. If the weather is a little warmer, like we’ve been experiencing in Sydney, an oversized blazer is also a great option.
2. MIX CABLE KNITS WITH MIDI HEMLINES
Rather than stash my winter knits out of reach, I’ll usually start pairing them with loose floaty midi skirts though they work just as well with a mini if that’s your preference. I find that this makes for a really chic and understated transitional look, that’s incredibly effortless to pull together.
3. TRY A CULOTTE INSTEAD OF A WOOL TROUSER
Don’t underestimate the power of the culotte – this has become a major wardrobe staple for me this past year. This is a great alternative to a pair of trousers as they have a lot of flow and movement, and I find they’re paired best when worn just as you would a midi skirt (for me that means usually with some block heels and a little cami).
4. PAIR WINTER BOOTS WITH SPRING DRESSES
Finally, don’t tuck away your boots just yet… knee high suede boots look really lovely when paired with a floaty spring dress, and the combination of a nice taupe or chestnut heeled bootie looks lovely with a lighter or mid-wash denim.
How do you transition your wardrobe from winter to spring? x
