J Crew cold shoulder top, RUBY a-line skirt (old but similar here and I also love this option), Spurr mules (adore these ones too!)
If you’ve watched some of my more recent videos on my YouTube channel, then you may have noticed that I’ve been sticking to my guns and actually trying something new: adding some real colour into my wardrobe.
It all started with this gorgeous silk cold shoulder top from J Crew, with its fluttery sleeves and delicate heart micro-pattern all over. I don’t often buy things like this on a whim, but I spotted it during the sales in the lead up to Black Friday, and the price was so good that I couldn’t really resist – I figured if I didn’t love it, I could easily send it back. But, it’s proven to be one of my favourite purchases that I’ve made, if not only during the tail end of 2017, but for the whole year. I haven’t been shy about sharing my own frustrations with my wardrobe, and my compulsive need to actually mix things up and make it feel fresh again, and this top does exactly that.
At the very last minute, I decided to pack this in my suitcase for our trip to the Maldives – I figured at the very least, it would make a cute option to wear during the evening for drinks down at the bar. I actually ended up reaching for this on one of our first days there for cocktails down at Ithaa, the Conrad’s undersea restaurant, pairing it with this a-line skirt from RUBY that I snapped up during the sales much earlier in the year. For something so bright and playful, it worked pretty well with a lot of the items I decided to pack, making it a good option for when I wanted to wear something that was a little more dressed up, and as you might be able to tell from the photo’s above, dry hair was optional (shoes too, as it turned out!).
As I start to think a little about my autumn/winter wardrobe for 2018 (I’ll definitely be making the most of the sales), it’s become pretty evident that this surprising purchase has shifted the way I think about colour palettes, and how I want to evolve my wardrobe for the year to come…
LOCATION – CONRAD RANGALI ISLAND
I am all for red printed tops! They are perfect with neutrals and denim! Definitely one that is wearable through summer, I can imagine this one with a pair of flared jeans too! Love that look!
