I tend to be a creature of habit when it comes to shopping for my wardrobe. Generally, I stick to a small handful of brands – something in of itself which can be quite ‘style-defining’. So for 2020, one of my goals was to branch out a little, and explore other labels which I liked, but hadn’t purchased from much in the past. Madewell, was one of them.

You might be able to guess from the images above what I went for; a couple of basic tees. I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect tee so thought I’d add these to the mix. Besides, now that it’s winter, I’ve been relying on cotton tees as a layering piece. Thankfully, it doesn’t get too cold in Sydney!
The first tee I added to my cart was a Madewell classic: the Northside vintage tee. I was hoping to snap this up in the white, but with only large sizes left, I went with the next best thing, a weathered grey. This is on the lighter end of the tonal spectrum, and has a slight warm undertone to it. The fit is strikingly similar to my beloved Re/Done tees, but first impressions are that the Madewell one is much softer. Almost like there’s a touch of modal to the fabric. The length cuts off just above the hip bone, and the sleeves are capped. I’m wearing the size S. Size up if you prefer more of a relaxed fit.
And because I can’t resist a textured number, I also added the hemp relaxed drapey tee to my cart as well. This just so happened to be on sale, and I loved the organic cotton and hemp blend. Online it gave the impression of having a really soft drape against the skin, which translates irl, too. The fabric isn’t fully opaque, so combined with the stripes it has a vacation casual vibe to it. The sleeves are also slightly longer, and there’s a white trim around the collar and cuffs. I love the way this looks paired with white or ecru. The fit on this style is much more relaxed. I went with a size medium for an oversized fit.
