Next in my dressing room diaries series is a try-on at Venroy. I’d been eying up quite a few styles online, so took the opportunity to see how it all felt and looked on while in Paddington recently. So here are my first impressions; what I’m still thinking about, and the items I felt were a bit of a miss (for me, at least). PS. You can see all these items in motion HERE.
Venroy Gathered Cotton Bodice (wearing size S)
First thing I tried on was this little bodice/bralet and lounge pant set; very European holiday on a yacht. This was one my fantasy self was drawn to; I’ve been on a real green kick of late, so perhaps this was in part for the green striped print. I’m wearing the size S here, and it barely covered my modesty. Mind the pun, but I felt a little like I was busting out of it. I didn’t try on the next size up as I felt like the band on the M might not be as secure. Probably one for those with a smaller chest size. This felt well made, was double lined, had ruching at the back, and adjustable straps. A little bit more on the expensive end for what it is though.
Venroy Printed Heavy Poplin Pant (size S)
This sort of relaxed trouser is really having a moment. A continuation of our desire to lean into wearing clothing which aligns more closely with our current lifestyles. And these are a great version of that wide leg pant in a crisp cotton poplin. I really liked these; the waistband was comfortable but felt secure, and the length and cut through the leg had the good kind of ease. Again fits true to size; I’m wearing the S here. Ultimately I probably would be reaching for a printed pant like this on rotation, but I do believe this exact same style comes in black as well as a parchment white – both of which are good basics…
Venroy Rib Knitted Cropped Tank (wearing size S)
I clearly made a beeline for the sets while in Venroy, and while the first set wasn’t a keeper for me (though the lounge pants are *chef’s kiss*), this one was. This is a fine linen knit tank, which has a textured element to it without feeling scratchy against the skin. I tried it on with flesh-toned underwear and didn’t find it revealing or see-through at all. The fit is quite boxy so I think you may find this a little unflattering if you’re a D cup or larger, especially combined with the cropped length. Overall a winner, and one you may have seen on my IG already. This is the cacao colour, which is a rich, red-toned chocolate brown. It also comes in a few different options including classic black. I’m wearing the size S and would say it fits true to size.
Venroy Rib Knitted Skirt (wearing size S)
A match made in heaven with that knitted cropped tank. This maxi length skirt is made from the same linen knit, and has a comfy (but firm) elasticated waistband that just slips on. On the hanger it’s essentially a tube skirt, but because of the light knit yarn, it skims over the contours of the body. A big yes from me. Also, to add, it washes well too. I love that you have lots of potential with a set like this; worn together, or as separates with other basics from your closet. Again wearing a size S and it fits true to size.
Venroy Linen Knitted Tank (wearing size S)
Another piece in that lovely linen knit. I’m such a tactile person by nature, and this has such an interesting soft knitted texture. This tank isn’t quite a racerback, but does curve in at the shoulders. There’s a very mild amount of sheerness, which I supposed was down to the light taupe hue. True to size for a relaxed fit. This one, I’m still thinking about. It might not look like much in the photos here, but it’s a good basic. And one thing I’ve come to realise is that it’s often the least exciting items in our closets that get the most wear.
Venroy Relaxed Panelled Trouser (wearing size S)
Sadly one of those items which just didn’t work for me. On paper (and online), I loved the look of these. An off-white parchment hue, with that comfy elasticated waist, and wide fit through the leg. In person, I felt like there was just a little bit too much fabric through the leg, which you can see are puddling at the floor. While a longer length pant can give the illusion of height, here on me they make my legs look shorter. Quality-wise though, they were lovely, and I really liked the subtle stripe down the centre.
Venroy Drawstring Bias Skirt (wearing size S)
The final item that I tried on was this bias-cut skirt in 100% linen. Possibly the one I was most curious to see on, as I wanted to see how it would fall over my hips (for me, the widest point on my body). I was thrilled to see that there wasn’t any puckering at the hip. And, the drawstring at the waist added extra security to keep it in place. The oatmeal hue also didn’t appear to be sheer, either. One thing that is apparent when reviewing the website photos, is how much longer it fit on me compared to the model! Personally, I prefer that slightly shorter length. If I were to eventually add this to cart, I’d be looking to get it tailored. Wearing the size S and it fits true to size.
