ASOS ruffle top (also in black), MSGM skirt^, Everlane trench coat, 3.1 Phillip Lim heels, Charlotte Olympia feline purse, Astrid & Miyu Gemini & Aries rings, Mejuri diamond necklace

As much as I’ve been trying to find the perfect balance between feminine and masculine silhouettes, there’s one ultra feminine trend that I can’t seem to get enough of; the ruffle. So rather than fight it, I figured it was best to take a page from Alessandro Michele’s book, and wear ruffles like a maximalist.

BE BOLD

Don’t be afraid to wear colour – particularly if you live in a warmer climate (or aren’t in the midst of winter, like me here in Sydney!). I don’t often step out of my comfort zone, but when I do, lately my pick of the crop has been anything orange or red. If it’s a little too much for you, this top also comes in black – perfect for the minimalist’s wardrobe!

DOUBLE RUFFLE

If you’re wearing a ruffled top like I am, try stepping it up a notch and pair it with a ruffle skirt, or a pair of ruffle hem trousers (like this affordable pair!) to really amplify the trend. I’m making the most of this feminine silhouette with this gorgeous architecturally ruffled skirt from MSGM.

HAVE FUN WITH YOUR ACCESSORIES

I typically like to keep things within a certain colour palette – and while I have, to some extent, I’ve made an effort to throw in some playful accessories. The little clutch bag from Charlotte Olympia complete with a feline grin is a favourite of mine, and I feel like this outfit wouldn’t go astray with a pair of wild thing sandals from Aquazurra.

THE BIGGER THE RUFFLE, THE BETTER

If there’s one thing I’ve been seeing a lot of on the runway, it’s a ruffle that makes a statement all on its own. When it comes to ruffles, think more is more – it’s one of the things I love most about the skirt I’m wearing above!

While I’m clearly more of a minimalist at heart – when it comes to style – dialing up the volume on your personal style, and amplifying your look a notch can be a much welcomed distraction from your day-to-day uniform. Have you tried giving your “regular programming” a break for something a little out of the box, as of late? x
