So I’ve been trying to do this thing where I take a few more risks with my wardrobe; and, this doesn’t mean when it comes to buying something new. I talked about building a versatile wardrobeLINK yesterday, and to me, this is the kind of closet which you can still have a bit of fun with. Take this outfit, for example, which is a little bit out of my comfort zone. It’s got all the building blocks for a classic go-to look of mine: a simple tee, a longline blazer, straight leg jeans and a pair of pointed toe pumps. But, by opting for a slightly different mix of accessories than I would usually go for – fastening my belt over my blazer, and the trendy netted bucket bag – I’m able to breathe new life into some of my old favourites.
Vince striped tee (similar option), Everlane cheeky straight leg jeans (review here), Yoli & Otis blazer (old but I love this alternative), Everlane editor heels, Seed Heritage netted bag (similar here and luxe option here), Linjer petite watch, Sarah van Oosterom belt, Mejuri earrings & ring
A few little styling notes I wanted to point out…
1. Because it’s currently spring, I opted for an earthy, neutral colour palette. I especially love wearing these kinds of hues this time of year, and despite being ‘contrasting’, all elements of my outfit work together really nicely.
2. I decided to save on the Staud Moreau bucket bagLINK, and in hindsight, I’m pretty glad I did. While it’s a fun piece, it feels a little too trendy for my tastes, so I’m actually finding very few excuses to want to reach for it, sadly. That being said, I wanted to make the most of juxtaposing the bag against this outfit. The blazer feels a little more pulled together, while the bag adds a bit of ease back into the look.
3. When throwing a belt on over a blazer, I think it works best with something that’s a little thicker. There’s a lot more fabric to contend with, and I find that a wider belt tends to stand out a little more.
How do you take risks with your existing wardrobe?
I really enjoy seeing you embrace the versatility of your wardrobe and trying new things to enjoy what you have, without needing to rely on a new haul as many fashion bloggers do. I agree that when belting something bulky like a sweater or a blazer, it helps to have a wider belt to feel substantial enough.
