Happy Monday everyone! I hope that you all had a fantastic weekend. For today’s outfit, I wanted to share a look that I was wearing last week: this simple combo wearing a pair of skinny jeans and an Everlane wool oversized blazer. As someone who now spends a lot more time working in a home office, I’ve been loving the laid back approach to getting dressed (#denimfordays), and a well-tailored blazer has been my go-to to make outfits look a little smarter.

Wearing Uniqlo t-shirt, Dr Denim skinny jeans (similar), Everlane wool oversized blazer (worn in size US 2), Isabel Marant belt (affordable here), Vaneli pumps, Elleme bag (also here), Mejuri earrings, YCL Jewels necklace

I’ve been continuing my monochromatic approach to getting dressed, which was largely what informed this outfit in a palette of black, white and grey. To add a little bit of contrast, I’ve worn this sweet baguette bag from Elleme in a rich forest green hue. I really love the size – which perfectly fits all my day-to-day essentials – and the gold button detail is really eye-catching, and the stand out detail of the bag.

The real hero of this outfit is the Everlane wool oversized blazer, and now that I’ve had the opportunity to wear it for a couple of weeks, I wanted to share my thoughts. I actually put my name down on the waitlist for this jacket, after spending a little too long umm-ing and ahh-ing over the style when it was launched last year. At the time of its original launch, it was too warm to even consider adding a wool blazer into my wardrobe. The tides have turned this year, and given I’m quite happy to invest in my closet out of season – provided it’s a classic and in line with my style – I figured it’d be a worthy addition for my autumn/winter wardrobe. And, I’ve not been proven wrong yet.

First, let’s start with the sizing and the cut of the jacket. As suggested in the name, it’s an oversized jacket, and by Everlane standards (in my experience), this does run large. I tend to opt for an XS or a S depending on a style, so as this is a slightly boxy but tailored piece, I decided to go for it in a size US2 (which is the equivalent of an AU6). I’d say that this fits a little more like a US4-6 (or AU 8-10) as it’s quite broad across the shoulders, and generously cut through the body. Personally, I like that “borrowed from the boys” style of tailoring. It has a relaxed feel, yet can look really chic when paired with the right outfit. The blazer has a bit of length to it, something I personally like given I carry so much of my height in my torso, which cuts off a little below the hip on me. Given my hips are my widest point, I find that this is a rally flattering length.

Second, I wanted to touch on the quality. The blazer is made of 68% wool, 28% nylon and 4% of other fibres. Judging by the composition, I’d say that the exterior of the jacket is pure wool, while the interior is lined with nylon. The hand-feel of the wool feels smooth to the touch, and I love the look of the woven herringbone, which adds a layer of depth to the fabric. It terms of the weight of the material, as far as wool jackets go, it’s pretty lightweight yet still feels warm. Given I live in a more moderate climate, it’s the kind of jacket I can see myself wearing as the sole outerwear piece throughout autumn and the start of winter.

Finally, I wanted to talk through how I’d wear the Everlane wool oversized blazer, given that the silhouette has a masculine feel to it, due to the boxy shape. A rule of thumb I have when adding any singular piece to my wardrobe, is to think about how it’ll pair with at least three outfits. To offset the oversized nature of the blazer, above, I opted to pair it with skinny jeans to create a bit of balance, but I’ve also tried it on with a slim straight leg and a shirt, and it looks equally chic (as long as I throw on some heels). For something more feminine, I like the idea of wearing it worn belted over an a-line skirt to give a bit more shape, especially at the waist. Finally, I think this would pair really nicely over a slinky slip dress, for a juxtaposition of textures and feminine versus masculine elements.

All in all, I’m really pleased with the style, and how effortless it’s been to throw this on with so many of my outfits. And I suppose, I can really appreciate why those that I already know have this jacket, have heroed this blazer since adding it to their wardrobes last year. And despite the fact that the weather is slowly starting to heat up in Sydney, I think the Everlane wool oversized blazer is a style I can still see myself reaching for six months from now. I’m currently considering placing an order for the glen plaid (which is on back-order) as I do love a good check, but perhaps opting for another size smaller in the size 0. What do you think? Worth the splurge…? x

Hey! I love this outfit and I have been eyeing off this piece myself. Did you get the sleeves tailored at all? Also, what is your height? I am 5″4 and a similar frame to you and I want to know if the sleeves will fit xx

Hi Bella, thanks for your comment. I haven’t had the sleeves tailored at all so that is the original length on me. Height wise I am 5’8″ or 172cm tall, and I carry a little more of my height in my torso x
