I’m still a little in denial that 2018 has come and gone, and in less than 48 hours, we’ll be ringing in a new year. Our plans are pretty low key this year – for anyone who has ever lived in Sydney, you’ll know how crazy things can get when trying to go in or out of the city. Luke’s spent the last month or so building a deck out the back, so I’m looking forward to enjoying a glass rose and some slow cooked BBQ to close out the year.
Wearing Atmos & Here ribbed tank (similar option here), ASOS denim skirt (similar here), Vince Camuto leopard heels, Orelia bracelet, AU|rate earrings, Mejuri ring
Because we’ll be spending the evening at home with family, I’ll be wearing a very pared back outfit for New Year’s Eve. Keeping in mind the weather forecast is 30 deg C for tomorrow, I’m opting for a simple ribbed tank and denim skirt combo. To mix things up, I’ve popped on my leopard print strappy sandals – though let’s be real, these will probably be lying on the deck an hour into the evening. What I like about this outfit is that you can get a totally relaxed vibe with a different pair of shoes (like these slides), perfect for a day trip to the beach.
As for accessories, I’ve kept those pretty minimal, though I wanted to make these gold bar earrings from AU|rate the focus. They’re the latest addition to my jewellery collection (along with these beautiful hoop earrings), and I love that they’re a point of difference to the usual styles I tend to go for. I tend to favour soft, rounded edges, but these are much more geometric, and have a little bit of movement to them too.
The only thing missing is a bold red lip.
What are your plans for New Year’s Eve? x
Good day – I’m interested in trying a minimalist/ capsule wardrobe, but I live in the Caribbean and the weather is around 85 degrees (plus or minus five degrees or so) every day of the year. Have you ever done a post about capsule or minimalist wardrobes for a climate with unchanging seasons? (I know you don’t do the strict capsule anymore.) I work in a business casual office, so I need a decent variety of clothes – T-shirts and jeans are not acceptable. But since we don’t have the changing seasons as an impetus to mix things up, I wondered how often and what your strategy is for rotating your wardrobe in a year-round tropical climate so I won’t get bored with all my clothes.
Thanks in advance for your help!

Hey Emily, thank you so much for your comment and apologies for the delay in getting back to you. I haven’t done a post on that subject, sadly, however I think if you’re planning on doing a year round capsule I’d suggest doing it one of two ways. The first, is creating a traditional capsule across three or six months and switching things in and out to help keeping your closet feel fresh. The second, would be to have a larger number of items and work on creating a selection that is really versatile with plenty of outfit options. Revisit it each 12 months to see if there’s anything you’d like to swap in or mix up. Hope that helps! 🙂
