What I’ve bought from the mid-year sales

Fashion Jackson wearing Rhode Ella Dress in white

If you asked me what was currently on my wishlist, I’ve really only got one answer for you. A pair of Gucci loafers. So aside from picking up a few more basic white tees, there hasn’t been much on my radar, from a fashion perspective. That said, I felt inspired to have a quick browse of my wishlist on Matches, to see if any of the key items I liked over there were on sale, and ended up splurging on two pieces I’ve been wanting for more than six months now.

The first item I added to my cart was the Rhode Ella dress in black (also on sale here in the yellow floral). I’d thought about buying it this time last year, but decided to hold off as I was pregnant. Dresses which cinch in at the waist and have a flared skirt are immensely flattering, and I love the braided belt detail. It’s 100% cotton too so breathable, and easy to care for; two things I’ve been looking for a lot these days when buying anything new.

Overall I’m pretty content with the current state of my closet, so accessories are something I’m looking to more now, as a way of dressing things up. In particular, chunkier earrings and necklaces. Timeless Pearly is one of those brands which I’ve always kept tabs on. A lot of the earrings are quite bold, and the asymmetrical designs make them especially eye-catching. I had a few different styles sitting in my wishlist, but in the end I settled on this mismatched pearl, crystal and ceramic pair. If it hasn’t been evident, I wear a lot of black or white, and figured this would be a striking accessories choice to offset the simple nature of my outfits. What’s neat is that the charms are detachable, so you can remove them on days where you’d prefer to just wear a gold hoop.

Finally, this purchase was one I made late last month, but I thought I’d include it here just to share. I’d been feeling a little like the tops in my closet were… lacking. Perhaps it’s the abundance of simple basics, but I was on the lookout for a couple of tops that would inspire me. Especially as I’ve been leaning a lot on denim to build my outfits of late. I spotted this black cotton off shoulder top on Free People, and was immediately drawn in. It has basic elements, but the off-shoulder style combined with the ballooned sleeves add a fun touch. One thing I will say is that it does fit quite stiffly on the shoulders; there’s no give. So if you have been eyeing this one up (I mean, the price is pretty great for a cotton top), do keep that in mind.
